For cyclists have developed special rules of conduct on the roads. It should be noted that they are also subject to some points and general traffic rules applicable to motorists. Consider the rules for safe cycling.
Terminology
The rules of the cyclist (or cycling) include general provisions. They set the basic terms used in the manual. So, a bicycle (cycle mobile) is a vehicle that is set in motion by the muscular power of a person on it. Wheelchair does not belong to this category . A bicycle path is an element of the road that is structurally highlighted either by lines. It is designed to move the drivers of the above vehicles. The markup element is indicated by a special sign. A pedestrian is a citizen who is not in the vehicle but is involved in traffic on the road. It also acts as an individual moving on a wheelchair, roller skates, and other sports equipment. A pedestrian is also a person driving a motorcycle, a moped, a bicycle, a scooter, a stroller or a sled who does not perform repair and other work on the roadway in the prescribed manner. The zone for such citizens is the territory, exit and entry to which is indicated by appropriate signs. The pavement is a road element that adjoins the roadway or is separated from it by a lawn. It is intended for the movement of pedestrians and cyclists in accordance with the rules set out below.
Responsibilities and Pedestrian Rights
At night, or with poor visibility when driving along the edge of the road or along the side of the road, the person driving a motorcycle, moped, scooter or bicycle should be marked with marker lights. Moving must be carried out in the course of transport.
Maneuvering
After parking or stopping, the driver of the car, starting movement, must give way to moving vehicles. An exception to this requirement is the case provided for in paragraph 125 of the SDA. Carrying out the congress, the driver should give way to riders, pedestrians and cyclists, the path of which he crosses.
Motorway
This element is indicated by the corresponding sign. It is forbidden to move horse-drawn vehicles, pedestrians, riders, wheeled tractors, self-propelled cars, cattle drovers, vehicles incapable of speeding more than 40 km / h for technical reasons. Cycling is also prohibited. The rules of the road do not allow the movement of mopeds and motorbikes on the highway.
Important points
In the process of leaving the pedestrian and residential areas, as well as the adjacent territory, car owners are obliged to give way to vehicles moving along it, as well as pedestrians, cyclists, riders whose path they cross. Pushing cars on the roadway is prohibited. An exception is the case of putting them on the sidelines.
Rules for riding bicycles and scooters
For the specified transport, slightly different provisions apply. How is cycling carried out? Traffic rules allow movement on this vehicle in designated areas. These include the curb, sidewalk, pedestrian zone. It should be said that cycling in these areas is allowed in the absence of a dedicated bike path. In the absence of all these elements, movement along the carriageway in 1 row is allowed no further than a meter from the right edge. Driving on a scooter is allowed along the side of the road or along a road common with cars. In this case, the driver of the moped should be no further than a meter from the right edge of the roadway. Safety rules when riding a bicycle and a moped allow an increase in distance of more than 1 m when turning, turning (if permitted) or avoiding an obstacle.
special instructions
The guide provides an explanatory note. The rules for cycling require the following:
- Drive further than a meter from the edge only to avoid obstacles, turn left and turn if necessary.
- Columns of cyclists during the movement on the carriageway should be divided into groups. In each of them no more than ten people. Movement of groups is carried out at a distance of not less than one hundred meters from each other.
- If there is a road marking line (horizontal) on the carriageway, it should be located to the left of cyclists.
- At an unlit time of day or with poor visibility, the vehicle should be indicated: in front of a white lamp (headlamp), red in the back.
Intersections
Outside the intersection in unregulated areas, the cyclist must let vehicles moving along the road. If he crosses the carriageway at a pedestrian crossing, he should drive the vehicle next to him. However, its movement is regulated by regulations for pedestrians.
Limitations
The rules of cycling at the intersection prohibit the use of technically faulty means, equipment with violations of the requirements established by regulatory enactments. It is not allowed to move around the vehicle without holding onto its steering wheel or without lowering its feet on the pedals. The rules for cycling on the road set limits for cases of turning and turning left. In particular, it is forbidden to maneuver when there is a tramway or more than one lane in the direction of travel. The rules of cycling around the city do not allow traveling on the roadway in ice or snow. Passengers should not be transported, except for children under 7 years old in a specially equipped seat. The rules for cycling around the city do not allow the transport of goods protruding more than half a meter in width or length beyond the dimensions of the vehicle, and objects that interfere with control.
Age restrictions
Unaccompanied adults are forbidden to manage persons who have not reached:
- 14 years - by bicycle. The exception is moving through residential, pedestrian areas, sidewalks and specially designated areas.
- 16 years old - a moped. Exceptions are residential and pedestrian areas.
Vehicle Approval
The rules of cycling establish certain requirements for the technical condition of the product. In particular, the transport must be equipped with a working brake system, steering, sound signal. In addition, a rearview mirror is required. There should be a white reflector on the front, red on the back, and an orange on the side.
Stock Behavior: General
Carrying out spectacular events involving cyclists carries a high risk to life. It is difficult enough to achieve coherence when moving large groups. Each participant in such an action needs to know and follow the rules of cycling. In addition, there are simple recommendations, compliance with which will ensure the safety of health and life and eliminate injuries.
Group Move
The rules for cycling include the following requirements:
1. Compliance with the distance. Of particular importance is the distance to the front one.
2. Rectilinear movement. Do not maneuver and move inside the column. If you want to be close to friends, relatives in the group, it is better to take the necessary position at the start.
3. Movement within the group. If the column moves along the sidewalk, then do not turn out onto the roadway.
4. Do not talk on the phone. In addition, when attention is diverted when driving a bicycle in this case, a sudden braking with one hand may cause a fall. This, in turn, can result in personal injury.
5. Do not smoke or drink alcohol.
6. Braking and turning should be smooth. At the same time, you should warn the other participants using gestures:
- when speed decreases, the arm must be raised up;
- if there is an obstacle (bumps, open hatch, etc.) during a detour, you should indicate it.
It is necessary to follow the gestures of other participants, especially those in front. Violating these simple rules of cycling, you endanger not only your own life, but also those around you.
Moving volunteers
These active cyclists provide voluntary assistance in organizing and conducting events. Each volunteer is given a special vest with reflective elements. This allows you to select them in the column. Depending on the responsibilities, volunteers are:
- Guides. They set the optimal speed at which people with different physical fitness will be comfortable driving. They control the movement on the slopes. To avoid blockages, the guides reduce the speed of the column. After a long climb, they hold the group, waiting for the laggards. Participants in the column must not overtake the guides. Volunteers, in turn, warn others about obstacles that appear.
- Attendants. This category of volunteers is aligned with the left edge of the column. Due to this, a group of cyclists stands out from the total flow of vehicles. In addition, attendants warn the movement of column participants outside the right lane. In addition, this category of volunteers ensures compliance with the order, ensures that no one violates the rules of cycling.
- Trailing. This group controls the tail of the column. Volunteers make sure that participants observe the high-speed regime, do not stretch and do not tear themselves apart from each other over a large distance. In case of stopping or lagging someone, the reasons for what happened are found out. If necessary, volunteers hold the column or separate from it a participant who needs medical, technical or other assistance.
Rules for cycling for students
It was stated above that persons who are not yet 14 years old must be accompanied by adults. In addition to this, the rules for cycling for students contain the following requirements:
- The movement of persons of 7-14 years old is allowed along the sidewalks, within the pedestrian zone. They are also allowed to cycle and cycle paths. Moving along the designated lanes, curb and roadway is prohibited.
- Children under 7 years old are allowed only with pedestrians.
The child must have appropriate equipment. The rules for cycling for children do not contain direct requirements for this. However, the presence of a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads will significantly reduce injuries.
Common violations
One of the most common is considered to move towards cars. The next common violation is a crosswalk. If you need to cross the carriageway along the zebra, you need to get off the bike and walk on foot, driving alongside it. Otherwise, an emergency may occur. The fact is that a moving person on a bicycle is not a pedestrian. And when he crosses the roadway along the zebra, the driver of the car, in fact, should not pass it. Very often in such situations, a collision occurs. In addition, cyclists often appear on the road suddenly. It also leads to accidents. In this regard, in the summer, motorists should be more careful on the roads.
