They owe their appearance to the local photographer Giuseppe Ratti, whose innate curiosity and professional duty was pushed to the military airfield, where he talked with the pilots. His first creation was born in 1917 and received the name Protector. The glasses were made of brown lenses worn on an elastic band. The first test was Francesco De Pinedo, who made the transatlantic flight with these glasses. Soon, the novelty spread widely among the aviation forces of Italy.
But this was not a debut. It will be years before the whole world speaks of Persol. Glasses of this brand appeared again after decades - in 1957. They were designed for Turin carriages with the purpose of wind and dust protection. The model received the number 0649 and today has become a real classic Persol. Points numbered 2978, which were released almost immediately after the previous ones, are now also considered classics of the Italian style.
