Many fans call him the new Rudolf Nureyev. Classical ballet has high hopes for the artist, and large glossy publications regularly invite young talent for photo shoots ... It's about Sergey Polunin, the new star of Russian ballet. In this article, you will be presented with his brief biography.
Childhood
Like most dancers, Sergei Polunin got into ballet in early childhood. While his peers were playing in kindergarten, a 4-year-old boy did gymnastics in a sports school. Teachers immediately noticed the incredible plasticity of Sergei. And later it turned out that little Polunin has impeccable hearing. This predetermined the fate of the future ballet dancer. At 8, his parents transferred the boy to a choreographic school.
Until the age of 10, Sergei Polunin and his family lived in Kherson (Ukraine). Then the parents realized that for the further development of the boy’s career, he had to go to the capital. Sergei and his mother went to Kiev, and his father stayed in Kherson and sent them money for subsistence. A talented and receptive boy developed very rapidly.
Relocation to London
At age 13, a young talent went to conquer London. Such an opportunity was granted to Sergey by the Nureyev Foundation. His representatives noticed the talent of the boy and singled out Polunin from the crowd of young dancers hungry for fame.
Since Sergei devoted all his childhood to ballet, there was no time for communication with peers. Therefore, the boy could not be called outgoing. The artist himself says that only thanks to isolation he is best able to convey the feelings of romantic and lonely heroes on stage. It also contributes to the extraordinary appearance of a young man.
Sergei Polunin, whose personal life is described below, began his career in the most prestigious theater in the world - Covent Garden. At the age of 19, he became his leading soloist. This was the first such case in the entire history of the existence of the London theater. But it was then that Polunin realized that not much had been achieved ...
Return to Russia
In an interview with Vog magazine, Sergei said: “You know, in our country they say that Russian can leave Russia, but Russia can never leave Russia.” And then the young man starred in a photo shoot for this publication. In the same way, his predecessor, Rudolf Nureyev, did in his time.
Dancer Sergei Polunin really got bored in London. Of course, he achieved the position of lead singer of Covent Garden, but the young man wanted even more fame. Moreover, no matter how prestigious the performances in England may be, the Bolshoi Theater with its backstage intrigues and high-profile premieres remains the dream of any Russian ballet dancer.
New performances
In one of the interviews, the dancer spoke about national approaches to ballet art: “In Russia, no one will listen to people who have no status. In England, they value their opinion. The whole system is built on this. There are no individuals, only a team. In terms of human relations, this is beautiful, but it harms art. "A talented artist is not allowed to open up and is kept on a par with others." Sergey believes that only in Russia will he be able to fully realize his talent. Polunin got a job as prime minister at the Stanislavsky musical theater. And in the next season his dream will come true - the dancer will begin joint projects with the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters.
Those who have not been to the artist’s performances should hurry to the box office. After all, very soon the young man will end his career. 26 years old is exactly the age at which Sergei Polunin plans to leave. Ballet, according to the dancer, severely injures: “Up to 32 everything is fine and fun, the body manages to recover, but after 28 it is necessary to increase the load, otherwise you will quickly lose shape. And in adulthood, performances are generally given with great difficulty. ”
Personal life
The personal life of a dancer is directly related to ballet. After all, Sergei literally lives in the theater, completely surrendering to his beloved business. But this is only one of the reasons why representatives of ballet art meet ... When Sergey Polunin lived in London, he was in a relationship with Helen Crawford - an artist of the Royal Ballet. But before his departure, the young man decided to part with her. Polunin himself declares that he likes only dancers: “I’m already used to the ballet standard. Other women seem strange to me - they lack muscle. ”
Now Polunin is in Moscow. Alone, he lives in his small apartment near the theater or not - no one knows. Sergey does not like to talk about his personal life. Nevertheless, he does not hide the fact that things are rather bad with this. In a recent conversation with Mickey Rourke for the Interview, the dancer ironically remarked: "My reputation is not very good, which is why everything is complicated with girls."
By the way, for one of his former lovers, Sergei Polunin made a tattoo on his back. It was the inscription "Sorry, Tiger Cub." That is what the dancer called the girl who left him. With his deed Sergey wanted to return her. The young man did not specify what he had done to the former passion. But it was he who was most likely to blame, because Polunin’s reputation was not very good.
