Many men, with age, acquire a whole “bouquet” of diseases. Most of them lead to the fact that there is an uncomfortable and somewhat stressful situation in the body, when urine spontaneously and uncontrollably comes out. This problem is called urinary incontinence in men, but do not despair when you find it in yourself. Currently, everything is treatable, most importantly, consult a doctor on time!
Incontinence, or urinary incontinence, is characterized by a condition where urine excreted spontaneously is visualized. This is a global problem, as the disease is present in more than 200 million people on the planet.
Urinary incontinence in men is divided into several types:
• Urgent incontinence - is an involuntary loss of urine urgent (imperative) urinary urge;
• Stress incontinence - manifests itself in circumstances arising from an increase in intra-abdominal pressure. This may be laughter, sneezing, coughing, when lifting weights, in the process of getting out of bed, and the like. Most often, such incontinence is manifested due to operations (prostate adenoma, prostate area). That is, when there is damage to the sphincter mechanisms;
• Mixed incontinence in men includes signs of both urgent and mixed incontinence;
• Paradoxical ischuria - arises from overflow of the bladder. This incontinence occurs due to incomplete emptying, mainly against the background of diseases such as adenoma and cancer, since there is a decrease in contractile function;
• Transient urinary incontinence. It appears under the influence of external factors and ends after the end of their action. This is, as a rule, taking diuretics, alcohol poisoning, the presence of acute cystitis or impaired bowel function.
The first three types are the most significant and have a clinical nature, as they most often lead to complications and operations on the prostate gland.
Urinary incontinence in men is often associated with age-related changes, but it is worth considering that it is not a wholly-owned companion of aging. It can and should be treated, in which only a qualified doctor will help you, correctly diagnosing the disease and choosing an effective method of treatment. Indeed, urinary incontinence in men can have a variety of reasons.
The main role in the normal process of urination is played by the coordinated work of nerves and muscles of the urinary system. Indeed, thanks to the nerves, sphincters receive a signal from the brain. Therefore, any malfunction in the nervous system can lead to problems with urination. Unfortunately, enough diseases can provoke such failures - diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, stroke and many others lead to brain damage and, as a result, loss of control over urine output.
In order to avoid possible negative manifestations from the bladder, be sure to visit a urologist regularly. An examination will show whether the prostate gland has increased in size, whether nerve damage is present, expressed in changes in sensitivity and muscle tone or reflexes. If necessary, you will be prescribed electroencephalography, which will show if there are abnormalities in the brain, or electromyography, which determines the state of activity of the nerve endings. Urinary incontinence in men is also diagnosed using ultrasound and urodynamic studies.
Treatment of urinary incontinence in men depends only on the specific cause of the incontinence. Methods of treatment may be of a medicinal nature, include physiotherapeutic procedures, or solve the problem surgically. Previously, medicine offered a treatment consisting of special exercises for the pelvic muscles and medications, which, as a rule, was effective only in patients with minor disorders.
The later transurethral administration of the gel also did not provide a solution to the problem of incontinence. And only now, thanks to advances in implant surgery, urinary incontinence in men is eliminated in most cases.
