Ballet art arose during the Renaissance in the princely palaces of Italy and during its existence has repeatedly experienced crises. However, they managed to survive through the appearance of talented choreographers who created new directions and performances that help attract spectators. One of such devotees of domestic ballet was Evgeny Panfilov. He became a propagandist of free dance in our country at the end of the 70s of the last century and left behind a rich creative heritage.
Today, the Perm Yevgeny Panfilov Ballet Theater operates in Perm, where you can see most of the masterās performances, many of which are considered classics of modern dance. This team also often goes on tour in the capital, Russian regions and abroad, so not only Permians were already able to appreciate it.
Choreographer Biography
Evgeny Alekseevich Panfilov was born in the Arkhangelsk region in 1955. After graduating from school, the future choreographer first entered a military university, where he was supposed to receive the profession of political worker, but at the age of 22 he decided to change his profession - he entered the State Institute of Arts and Culture in Perm. Later, he studied at the choreography department of GITIS, and also took a course at the International School of Modern Choreography in North Carolina (USA).
Back in 1979, Panfilov created his first amateur dance group, which quickly gained popularity among the young residents of Perm. Later, in 1987, the choreographer presented to the public a new professional dance theater āExperimentā. The performances staged by the choreographer during this period brought him fame far beyond Perm, as they were distinguished by the novelty that the audience had long been waiting for, tired of the endless variations on the theme of classics. In 1991, the ballet of Evgeny Panfilov was created, which after 9 years received the status of state. In subsequent years, the team more than 10 times became the laureate of the most prestigious theater awards, which is very rare when it comes to provincial groups.
Panfilovās life was tragically interrupted at the age of 46, when he was killed in his apartment by an acquaintance. A month before, the choreographer managed to present his version of the ballet The Nutcracker, which critics called tragic, as it shows a world devoid of illusions and inhabited by gray evil mice.

This dance group is today considered one of the most famous of the provincial ballet companies of our country. And this is not surprising, since he repeatedly and with great success represented Perm at many national theater competitions. So, in 2006, the Panfilov ballet became the winner of the Golden Mask award for the one-act ballet Cage for Parrots, created by the founder of the troupe.
Shortly before his death, the choreographer staged the ballet āLife is beautiful!ā On the stage of the Tempodrom Theater in Berlin. It was based on the music of the 7th symphony of Dmitry Shostakovich and works by Soviet composers and songwriters of the 30-50s. Then this performance was revised for the Perm troupe and received the name "BlockAda".

In 1993, a unique choreographic troupe was created in Perm. Its members can be women in whom bodily fullness is combined with mobility and internal fire. As Yevgeny Panfilov himself admitted, āBallet of the Fatā was not created at all in order to shock the audience. Choosing ladies of Rubensian physique as actresses, the choreographer simply wanted to show that full ballerinas can have no less excellent plastic than thin women.
Today, this women's troupe is creating a grotesque show with the participation of girls with curvaceous forms on the stage of the Yevgeny Panfilov Ballet Theater. The idea of āācreating performances in which leading dancers with an unusual complexion were involved seemed at first strange. Many decided that this troupe would put on only comedy shows, but the team broke all stereotypes. What is the play āWomen.ā Year 1945 ā, for which the troupe received theā Golden Mask ā!
āBallet of the Fatā by Evgeny Panfilov is also popular far beyond the borders of our country. In particular, he has already visited 25 cities of Germany and 40 cities of Great Britain, where his performances caused a real sensation.
"Fight club"
Being an indefatigable experimenter, Evgeny Panfilov all the time sought to create something new. So, in May 2001, the choreographer founded the Fight Club of Evgeny Panfilov, which included only dancers. At the same time, the premiere of the program āMale Rhapsodyā took place. The next significant work of Panfilovās team was the show āTake Me Like That ...ā, and then the audience was presented with the one-act ballet āCapitulationā, in which modern dance shows a world mired in vice, rolling into the abyss and not even knowing how close it is to his death.
Repertoire
All three groups that perform on the stage of the Panfilov Theater have an extensive and interesting repertoire. In particular, the performances ā8 Russian Songsā, āRomeo and Julietā and āBlock Adaā have been gathering full rooms for more than a year. Despite the fact that the founder of the theater has long been dead, the traditions laid down by him are carefully preserved.
