DIY grounding? It is easy and simple!

There are still houses in which there is no grounding. And this means that neither people nor property in such a house are protected from malfunctions in various electrical equipment. Having bought such a house, the owners have, taking the necessary electrical safety measures, conduct grounding with their own hands.

Grounding should be carried out everywhere: both in ordinary houses and in shops, restaurants, cafes, karaoke bars. Keep in mind that it is dangerous without grounding to sing into the microphone on the street or to hold concerts in the rain. In rainy weather, these events are best carried out indoors.

When grounding a building, steel is most often used as a more economical material. Also, copper or steel in a copper sheath can be used as a ground electrode.

Installing grounding with your own hands is quite possible. This work is not daunting, and everyone can do it. To carry out the installation of grounding, large material investments and extensive knowledge in the electrical, electrical installation business will not be required.

The grounding system, in fact, consists of several electrodes that are dug on a land plot and are interconnected by metal strips.

There are stationary and portable grounding. Initially, for grounding, it is necessary to excavate several, at least three, pits of medium size on the site. For example, the depth of these pits may be two shovel bayonets. Then, the electrodes should be deeply driven into the holes obtained, the location of which depends on one's own desire. After that, between the installed electrodes, you need to dig out the small grooves in which the connecting conductors should be put.

It is not forbidden to use a steel wire that has a cross section of at least 50 mm². The next step is the transition to a copper wire. All this is done using bolted connections. It should be remembered that the cross sections of the copper wire and the phase supply conductor must be equal.

There are several basic technical requirements for how to do grounding yourself:

  1. As ordinary electrodes, it is possible to use simple water pipes or commonplace steel corners. The length of these electrodes should be 2 m and a width of 40-50 mm. The total cross-sectional area must be at least 150 mm². It is necessary that the minimum distance between existing ground electrodes is 120 cm.
  2. It is possible to use in the form of connectors a steel strip, the width of which is 40 mm, or reinforcement with an approximate diameter of 0.1-0.12 cm. The fastening of the connecting strip to the electrode should be carried out by welding. In this case, the use of any other fixing means is prohibited!

As a result of the foregoing, we can conclude that it is not difficult to carry out grounding with your own hands in the house. Adhering to these instructions, everyone will be able to ensure in-house security for themselves and their property from electrical outages.
