Split personality

A split personality is far from new and well-known even for a person far from psychiatry. However, not everyone correctly interprets this concept, although the symptoms of the disease are fully understood and indicated in detail.

It is noted that in the modern world this phenomenon is increasingly common. Signs of a split personality are the appearance in the consciousness of the individual of a second “I” and his awareness of himself as two different personalities. Accordingly, under the same conditions, a person can behave completely differently, make decisions that are inconsistent with each other, and look at the same problem from a different angle, depending on which person takes the dominant position at the moment.

In especially neglected cases, the patient does not even remember what one of his hypostases did. One can compare such a life with being in two dimensions. An example is the patient’s confidence that he is a great commander, writer, president, actor, and the like.

In medicine, a split personality is classified as one of the symptoms of schizophrenia. In such a situation, a person simply needs serious treatment, possibly in a specialized medical institution.

A split personality occurs in a lighter form. Its symptoms differ significantly from signs of a mental illness. The main difference is that the individual is aware of his integrity, but is able to do things, speak words and draw conclusions that are not subject to a single system of thinking. One of the signs is also a constant change of opinion about the same phenomenon or object, in addition, at different periods of time a person reacts diametrically opposite to the same situation. So, usually a shy and timid individual suddenly becomes extraordinary and shocking, painstakingly attracts attention and rejoices if he succeeds.

Quite often, such a phenomenon as a split personality is observed under the influence of narcotic substances or alcoholic beverages.

In the presence of the ailment in question, there is a risk of developing an even more serious mental disorder, since the patient is in constant conflict with himself. The two "I" people do not agree with each other, so he is tormented by emotional restlessness, he sleeps very poorly, suffers from headaches and dizziness.

A split personality is a mental disorder that can occur after a mental or physical injury occurs. For example, in the event of the loss of a loved one, the need for his replacement is not ruled out. The role of the departed takes on the second "I" of the patient.

Another reason for the development of the disease may be the inability to stand up for themselves, weak character. At the subconscious level, the individual is looking for someone who could give him the necessary protection. That is why most often the second "I" of such a person - self-confident, aggressive and even arrogant, his behavior is not always approved by the main personality, but she simply can’t resist her stronger half.

A textbook example of this phenomenon is the story of Miss Buchamp. Four "I" coexisted in it with a different level of knowledge, state of health and the nature of the memories. The third person asked to call herself Sally and stated that she was a spirit. She was in a dominant position over the rest, enjoying the torment experienced by others. So, Sally could put a beetle in a box so that the “other”, fearful, Miss Buyemp would be dumbfounded with horror.

Dr. Prince was able to rectify the situation. In sessions of therapeutic hypnosis, he worked precisely with Sally, persuading in every possible way, sometimes even begging her not to laugh at the other three. Such tactics bore fruit: the restless "I" left the body, and the other three peacefully merged together.

Thus, a split personality is its painful splitting into two or more phases, succeeding each other in behavior and character and not connected in any way with each other.
