Water tank. Classification and Application

A water tank is the main and most convenient method for preserving, accumulating and issuing stocks of drinking and industrial water. It is used in many areas of human activity in which it is required to stockpile and store fluids.

These containers are widely used in everyday life among the population. They are also used in food, agricultural, chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries.

Application

Different industries require an appropriate amount of water of a certain quality. For example, a tank with water intended for consumption must comply with sanitary requirements and regulatory documents that establish the necessary parameters.

water storage tank
Depending on the scope and volume of the enterprise, a water tank is installed both above the ground - on the surface of the soil or on a base of steel or concrete, and under it - by digging into the soil. Water tanks are used for such purposes:

  • water collection and storage;
  • fire fighting and other emergency situations;
  • preservation of stocks of industrial or drinking water;
  • organization of drainage systems;
  • creation of wastewater treatment plants.

Classification

Capacities are classified by type, shape, volume and body material. By type, the water storage tank can be horizontal or vertical, in shape - cylindrical or rectangular. It can be made of both metal and polymers. Any material has its advantages and disadvantages.

Tank types

Horizontal tank is widely used in many industries. It happens depending on the purpose of various geometric shapes: rectangular, cylindrical or oval. The most economical option is a container in the form of a rectangle, since the sheet does not require rolling, and its assembly is less time-consuming.

Vertical capacity is a very popular option. It is a cylinder with a conical or flat bottom, floating or straight roof. A vertical water tank is made of reinforced concrete with appropriate waterproofing, stainless steel insulated with a heat insulator, and also from polymeric materials. This type is more expensive to produce than horizontal tanks, but it can withstand more pressure and can be installed on a relatively small area of land.

Plastic tanks

Plastic containers are made of industrial polypropylene or polyethylene, in which food products can be stored. Due to this, they can contain not only industrial water, but also drinking water. Plastic water tanks differ in structure and shape depending on the application.

plastic water tanks
Tanks that store drinking water are usually made in blue and are marked with a special mark. They do not let in ultraviolet rays and are absolutely harmless, therefore they do not give water any taste or smell even during long-term storage. Any containers made of plastic are sealed and resistant to many environmental influences. They have a long service life (about 50 years when used correctly) and do not require repair work and painting. Plastic tanks are resistant to all surfaces. They have several advantages over metal analogues, these are:

  • convenient transportation;
  • little weight;
  • low cost;
  • resistance to external factors;
  • eco-friendly material.

Plastic containers are widely used in production, when watering in summer cottages, washing areas or streets, storing water in bathhouses, fighting fires and for other household purposes.

Fire tanks

Fire tanks for water are used to create a stock of a certain amount of water, which, if necessary, will be used to eliminate fires. These tanks with process water are independent of the water supply system, and therefore indispensable in enterprises that do not have access to a water source. Some types are performed with a partition, which makes it possible during a scheduled inspection or maintenance not to disconnect the enterprise from the fire extinguishing system . Also, containers with two sections are used when mixing two types of liquid, which more effectively eliminates fire.

Fire tanks can be of different models, which allows you to choose the best option for the fire system of any enterprise. An organization with a small territory with the help of an underground reservoir has the ability to effectively apply a land plot and significantly reduce water losses from the evaporation process. Another popular option is the ground installation of the tank on props at a height of 3 m to 7 m. With this arrangement, the liquid is supplied without the use of an electric pump, which is very important when a fire occurs when there is no electricity. If an option for installation inside the production room is required, then a rectangular container, which can be used simultaneously as a storage of fire-fighting water supply and industrial water , will be an excellent solution .

The fire tank for water is made of ordinary or stainless steel, as well as plastic. Steel storages have a long service life, on average not less than 10 years, and are used at temperatures from -60 Β° C to +35 Β° C. However, the capacity of ordinary steel has a lower price than that of a technical stainless steel, but after a certain time requires scheduled repairs and mandatory external and internal painting. It is galvanized to protect the housing.

Washing machine with water tank

Automatic washing machines are indispensable in every home today, but their functioning requires a constant supply of water. If there is no centralized water supply, for example, in rural areas, or there are interruptions in water, as well as low pressure on the top floor of an old high-rise building, then its connection can cause difficulties.

The solution to this problem is a water tank. The washing machine will be provided with the necessary pressure at the inlet, thanks to the storage tank into which water can be poured by any methods: from the water supply system, from the well with the help of a pump, buckets from an import tank and other methods. In rural houses, the tank is usually installed in the attic or at a height of at least three meters.

Some manufacturers of washing machines produce ready-made models with a water tank. They come both with automatic filling of water from the common system, which will be an excellent solution for apartments with problematic water supply, and with manual filling in the absence of water. The latter are more suitable for rural houses without running water.
