The history of plastic surgery as a field of medicine has been going on for almost three millennia, but its services and the opportunities it provides did not begin to be popular until the beginning of the twentieth century. Why so long? One of the most important factors hindering its development is the intolerance of the church to surgical intervention in the appearance of a person (“we are the way God created us, and the rest is from the evil one”). But then the influence of the church on science somewhat decreased and after World War I, when war-disfigured soldiers began to defeat surgeons with requests to help them return to normal life, the industry began to develop more intensively. True, its development in Russia did not occur as fast as in Europe - serious progress began to be observed only after the collapse of the USSR and the fall of the Iron Curtain. But then ... the pace of development of plastic surgery in the last twenty years can be called really rapid.
Well, development is really just great. The attitude of the simple consumer has also changed - if earlier people simply were afraid to go to the doctor, and, roughly speaking, to go under the knife without guaranteeing the result, now this fear is not so noticeable. True, something still remains, and the most unpleasant consequence of this fear is that the patient often cannot clearly and distinctly tell about his problem and coherently explain what exactly he expects from the operation. Therefore, any surgeon should always be a little psychologist. This, by the way, is one of the most important selection criteria. Even on the website of the surgeon Vyacheslav Balkizov , one, by the way, of the best plastic surgeons in Moscow, this is precisely what is being said - you need to look not just for a specialist, but for a specialist who, even after many successful operations, has remained human. A specialist who will first of all listen to the needs of the patient, and not try to satisfy his ambitions, proving to himself, the patient and everyone else, that he, they say, is a great doctor. If in the case of conventional medicine the “Israeli” approach, consisting in the fact that the doctor is primarily interested in the nature of the disease, and then the patient’s condition, justifies itself, then in the case of plastic surgery the humanitarian, social component is much more important.
But, of course, the most important criterion does not mean the only one. The professionalism of the doctor and his specialization are still of paramount importance - it is unreasonable, for example, to go to surgery for breast augmentation to a person who specializes in facial practice. But selection by specialization is, let’s say, the primary sieve, this is a completely logical first step. But from a ready-made list of specialized specialists, it is still better to choose according to this criterion - according to the human attitude, according to the degree of attentiveness. So that it doesn’t happen that your surgeon and his staff are madly in love with your new nose, and even objectively good in all respects, but you’re not at all likable.
