In this regard, in our society there are completely different opinions. Some people believe that pride and pride are diametrically opposed things, others - that they are almost the same thing. And the versions regarding these human qualities differ among believers and secular.
If you read the Bible and the Holy Fathers of the Church, the conclusion is clear: pride and pride - the words are the same root and their essence is the same. Pride is a lesser evil, it is compared with a benign tumor, and pride can be compared with a malignant tumor, which brings great harm to both the person himself and the people around him. Why?
The word "pride" consists of a whole combination of unsightly qualities such as vanity, pride, a sense of unjustified superiority over others, and so on. And if you look at Dahl’s dictionary, you can add to this definition: arrogance, arrogance, arrogance, arrogance. Pride, according to the Holy Scriptures, is the beginning of sin. Once upon a time, even before the advent of mankind, the eldest angel Dennitsa was so proud that he wanted to become like God. What did this lead to? To the war, the split and the overthrow of the fallen angels into the underworld. So evil appeared. What good is pride - nothing.
Secular people believe that pride and pride are two different things. Proud to be, they say, well, this is a sense of self-esteem, and as we were taught in Soviet times: "Man - it sounds proudly." Dignity and pride are different things, the beginning of pride comes from ignorance of oneself, of one’s inner qualities. Saint Tikhon Zadonsky writes that if a person could know himself, he would have nothing to be proud of! A person infected with pride has contempt for everything, put his point of view above others, annoyed by other people's flaws, not noticing his own.
Pride and pride are similar in that a person infected with them exalts himself, does not submit to his elders, does not have humility, does not accept advice, harbors insult, self-willed and so on. By secular standards, these are just good qualities, some even complain, now people have become so, have no pride, subservient to their superiors, do not hold their opinion. So understand who is right in this situation.
If you look at the issue: pride is bad or good, you can see that opinions on this score differ between people who are believers and who are too far from faith. Pride in both those and others does not cause positive emotions. It is, as it were, a derivative of pride, twisted, greatly enlarged and disfigured. Starting with vanity, pride can reach incredible proportions and bring a person to hell. And its main danger is that no other sin can grow to such enormous proportions as this.
Pride leads to condemnation - that there is a mortal sin. And the Bible says that if you do not judge other people, then you yourself will not be judged. How many times in our thoughts we condemn the deeds and actions of people, thinking that we certainly are not like that! And then the Lord allows us to fall into the same sins in order to lead us to humility. A person, realizing this, thinks: how to get rid of pride, what should be done for this?
Let us turn to the Holy Fathers, who teach us that virtue, the opposite of pride, is love. If a person loves his neighbor, he will not condemn him, he will not be extolled above him, but rather will try to understand, help and support him. So, it turns out that you can get rid of pride with the help of love. Selfless love, when you give everything and do not demand anything in return for yourself. When you do good not to be returned to you a hundredfold, but because you love a person and wish him only the best - sincerely and from the heart. And for this it is very important to see in each person the good that is in him, and not to look for flaws. And then gradually, step by step, it will be possible to defeat pride and exaltation over other people.
