Vitaliy Portnikov: the life of a Ukrainian journalist

Vitaly Portnikov: biography of young years

The future journalist was born in the very heart of Ukraine, in the glorious city of Kiev. It happened on May 14, 1967. His parents were Eduard Petrovich and Klara Abramovna. Vitaly's father worked as a director at a local fabric store, and his mother was a qualified lawyer.

Vitaly Portnikov began his studies at Kiev school No. 53, but due to circumstances he soon transferred to another educational institution at number 41. It was during his school years that Victor realized that he wanted to connect his life with the writing profession.

Therefore, at the end of school in 1985, he decides to choose his own education to match this dream. Alas, nothing came of it with the Kiev university, since at that time there was a special policy according to which Jews were simply not accepted.

Therefore, he goes to the University of Dnepropetrovsk, where he enters the Faculty of Philology. At the end of three courses, he successfully transferred to Moscow State University. There he receives a diploma of a journalist, and a ticket to adulthood.

Vitaly Portnikov begins to build his career as a student. So, in 1989, he was already publishing his articles for the Moscow Independent Newspaper. Around the same time, the young writer began to collaborate with the publication "Youth of Ukraine".

In 1990, Vitaliy went on the air of Radio Liberty. The station management likes the journalist, and soon he already runs a number of his own programs (“Guest Time”, “Own Name”, “Press Hour”).

In 1994, Portnikov was given the opportunity to print a column in Mirror of the Week. He happily agrees, but soon the newspaper was overbought by Boris Berezovsky, and the journalist, by virtue of his convictions, decides to leave it.

In 2006, Vitaly Portnikov arranged to work in the weekly newspaper “Gazeta 24”. Here he was entrusted with the post of chief editor, but she could not hold him for a long time. In October 2007, the writer leaves the editorial office.

And so, in 2009, he finally gets on the television channel TVi. Here he becomes the host of the program "True Vitaly Portnikov." And a year later he was offered the position of chief editor, which he gladly accepts.

Life today

After the revolution began in Ukraine in November 2013, Vitaliy sided with Euromaidan. A tough political position led to the fact that he secured strong support from the current government of the country.

And in July 2015 he was appointed one of the observers on the council of the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine.
