Trypophobia - what is it? How does it arise?

If you look at the image below with fear and disgust: you have goosebumps, breathing quickens, itching, hair moving, and even nausea, then you can safely refer to the ranks of tripophobes.

The fear of multiple holes in an organic and inorganic environment is called trypophobia. What this condition is and how it arises, we will discuss in today's article.

honeycombs can cause disgust
Fear of cluster holes not real?

It must be said right away that in modern medicine, tripophobia is still not officially recognized. She is considered something akin to a very pronounced disgust, normal for a person.

It is not known whether it will comfort those who can hardly look, for example, on honeycombs or skin with greatly expanded pores, those who are plagued by trypophobia, that this condition is simply one of the infinite number of fears that people experience.

How do fears arise?

But psychologists are not at all surprised by this. After all, people can be afraid of absolutely everything! Their fears are usually based on traumatic experiences (a dog has bitten - a fear of dogs has appeared), scary, shocking information (after watching a large number of horror films, a fear of darkness may appear ) or biological factors (a hereditary predisposition to anxiety).

But, by the way, one should not forget about such a phenomenon as the so-called "emotional infection". When discussing the topic of “trypophobia” publicly, photos of cluster holes begin to cause fear and disgust in more people. People from this group say that they did not know about their affiliation with tripophobes until they read the comments of other participants. There is nothing surprising in this: it is always easier, for example, to laugh at comedy, if everyone around you laughs.

Trypophobia - what is it: disgust or fear?

One of those obsessed with this fear wrote that in his student days a bee stung him from the outside of his thigh. Due to the allergic reaction, a strong tumor appeared, and all the pores became visible on the swollen skin, and this subsequently led to the fact that any small holes began to cause the victim experiences.

Psychologists note that disgust is often mixed with fear. These two feelings usually go hand in hand: spiders, mice, vomit, blood - all this causes not only disgust, but also an involuntary fear of getting sick.

Perhaps, the surface “pockmarked” from small holes also looks like an abnormal, incorrect one, giving a danger signal, which appears outwardly in the form of disgust. Especially when it comes to organic objects: there holes, probably, suggest the idea of blisters and rashes.

Trypophobia - what is it: a rare occurrence?

trypophobia what is it

Almost everyone, faced with the discussed fear, thinks that he is the only one who manifests this. But no, both people deprived of any phobias and those who defined their condition as trypophobia, pictures with images of multiple small holes on the body of a person or animal (especially those filled with something) cause unpleasant sensations. Just tripophobes remember the image longer and experience what they see more sharply. And the number of such people, oddly enough, is increasing.

Alas, so far you can only sigh and admit that the human brain holds too many secrets!
