In our country, the most popular wedding celebration in the Greek style. Such a wedding was widespread, because in Greece, wedding day is celebrated as large as in our country.
But before you start preparing for this important day, you should learn about some traditions of celebrating a wedding in the Greek style.
- A wedding in Greece is not complete without a bachelor party and a bachelorette party. It is important that the bride and groom have a great time before marriage. The bachelor party and hen party should be carried out one week before the Greek-style wedding ceremony itself.
- The wedding is celebrated not two days, as we have, but three (from Saturday to Monday).
- Bread made with saffron, rosemary, cinnamon, basil and mint must be included in the Greek-style celebration menu. The wedding will not do without seafood, meat or fish, seasoned with basil and rosemary. Greek salad, barbecue on wooden skewers and cabbage rolls in grape leaves should be present on the menu. Instead of vodka, white and red wine, Greek brandy (metaxa) and kumquat liquor are served on the table. They bring food on clay plates. Alcohol is not put on the table in bottles, but in jugs.
- Only white flowers (roses, irises or callas) should be included in the brideβs wedding bouquet.
- The bride wears a white wedding dress and a veil of pink, peach or beige color to drive away evil spirits. You can replace it with a wreath of flowers. It is also advisable for the groom to wear a light suit.
- A wedding in the Greek style differs from our wedding in that gifts are given not only to newlyweds. They are handed to all guests. These are sweets in bags.
- The hall should also be decorated in the Greek style. The wedding will not be truly Greek unless tablecloths with Greek patterns and candles stand on the tables. The hall should have columns, clay amphora with fresh flowers of yellow, red, orange, fruits and laurel branches.
Greek style wedding. Scenario
1. The bride drives up to the place of her wedding on a donkey or chariot and goes around the church three times.
2. The priest leads the bride and groom to the altar. During the wedding ceremony, crowns that are connected by ribbons are put on the heads of the couple. Crowns can be replaced with laurel wreaths. The bride and groom will have to spend all the wedding feast in them and keep them throughout their lives.
3. After the end of the wedding procedure, the newlyweds happily smash the clay plate on the ground and accept congratulations for the car honking.
4. The newlyweds begin the wedding dance, and then the guests join them. The invitees should put their hands on each other's shoulders and form a circle around the couple.
