Clowns are circus and pop comedians, designed to make children and other spectators laugh. A red nose, a painted wide smile and facial expressions make them cheerful in the eyes of others. There is an opinion that clowns are, in fact, unhappy and dejected people, and, seeing all the flaws and imperfections of this world, they try to make the audience laugh. They say that the "makeup" of a clown is all like a facade, and behind it is pain. Whether it is true or not, we don’t know, but in this article we will look at how to draw a clown with a pencil: funny and scary.
Tools and materials
In order to draw a clown, you will need a blank sheet of paper, a simple pencil and an eraser. If you have already prepared everything you need, let's start drawing!
How to draw a clown in stages
- First of all, we draw the head - a big circle.
- On the sides we paint two small semicircles - ears. In the middle of a large circle, we depict a small one that will serve your clown with his nose. Next, we depict the mouth — a wavy line running from one ear to the other.
- Now let's see how to draw a clown hair. First, on the head we draw a triangle, at the end of which there is a small ball - it will be a cap. From the base of the cap to the middle of the ears we draw curly hair.
- We turn to the image of the eyes. To do this, on both sides of the nose, we depict "windows", and inside them are another. Color them with a simple pencil, leaving glare.
- Next, decorate the cap with horizontal, slightly curved lines. We draw a smile. And also - three hairs per hair.
- Now - how to draw a clown's torso. Starting from the bottom of the head, draw down the semi-oval. On the site of the neckline we depict lush shuttlecocks.
- The next step is coloring the picture. To do this, you will need felt-tip pens / paints / pencils of red, yellow, green, blue, orange colors, but in general - the colors you want, here the choice is entirely yours. We paint the cap in red and white colors, alternating them. The hair and the upper shuttlecock are yellow. The face and ears are orange, the nose and mouth are red, the lower flounce is blue, and the rest of the trunk is green. That's all, the clown is ready!
Another option: scary clown
With the release of the film "It", and even before its release, clowns are associated not only with goodness, laughter and fun, but also with chilling horror. Let's try to draw a scary clown.
- We draw a nose, and on either side of it, on top, we depict eyes tilted to the nose so that the clown looks angry. We leave our eyes empty, without pupils, this gives even greater horror to the look.
- Add a wide evil grin and draw sharp fangs on the sides.
- We draw a contour around the mouth, depicting lips.
- We draw a circle of the head.
- Add the ears.
- Now let's see how to draw a bow to a clown. Outwardly, it should rather resemble not a bow, but a bone.
- We draw curls on both sides. Unlike the clown depicted above, this curl has fewer and more of them.

- Quite unusual, but start with the eyes. We draw two black ovals and paint over them.
- We make arches above the eyes and paint on the nose.
- Draw the lower eyelid and eyebrows.
- We draw the upper part of the head - a huge arch over everything previously drawn.
- Then we look at how to draw a clown's mouth. We draw a slightly curved line, from the middle we depict the tongue.
- We draw the cheeks and lips of a clown.
- Having retreated a little above the head, we begin to draw curls, bringing them almost to the end of the cheeks. We draw the same curls on both sides.
- It remains to portray only a bow. And that’s it, the clown’s head is ready!
