The word "cream soda" has been familiar to many of us since childhood. It was once called a carbonated drink with a creamy taste and light notes of citrus. He refreshed well in the heat, was inexpensive, and mothers were not afraid to give it even to children. Since then, much has changed.
Historical reference
They invented a soft drink from soda and ice cream a long time ago, at the end of the 18th century. It is noteworthy that lemonade appeared around the same time. Only if citrus syrup was the base in lemonade, and carbonated water appeared in the recipe much later, did cream soda initially contain it. This drink was widely spread in the USSR, along with the famous Pinocchio, Duchesse and Bell.
In the days of the Union, cream soda was made from natural fruit and herbal syrups. The use of herbal ingredients made the old, good cream soda not only so tasty, but also healthy. This drink was often sold not only in bottles, but also in street vending machines.
New technologies
Today, progress has touched all sectors of life. Modern cream soda is a drink with a completely different composition. No longer not just herbal syrups, but in most cases even essences. At the heart are synthetic ingredients. Although they at times reduced the cost of the drink, they did not add any benefit or taste to it.
The composition of modern cream soda includes a large number of various components of "E". Aroma, color and taste, although similar to the original, are obtained artificially.
Cream soda is produced by different manufacturers. Some of them seek only to reduce costs and increase profits. Someone is fighting for quality, trying to reduce the percentage of artificial components. The most skilled marketers try to bring the drink closer to Soviet standards. However, most of the activities aimed at this come down not to the desire to introduce the old recipe, but to "optical illusion" - for example, cream soda in glass bottles with USSR-style labels is produced. Visually, it causes not only bouts of nostalgia for many, but also the conviction that not only appearance, but also content is authentic.
Modern recipe
The following formulation is the basis of the technology of the beverage produced today:
- 1000 liters of water;
- 700 g of flavor base;
- 100-777 g of sweetener (natural or synthetic);
- 4 kg of carbon dioxide;
- 880 g of citric acid;
- 177 g of sodium benzoate (E211).
You can make this drink yourself. To do this, mix 40 ml of coconut milk and pineapple juice, 10 ml of coconut syrup, 2 desserts of lemon juice, 100 g of cream ice cream and pour it all with a glass of sparkling water.
