Just overlooked - and that’s it! We will remain without a "second bread" ... What to do? Probably fight! Fighting the Colorado potato beetle with folk remedies is an effective way to tear your crop out of the legs of an insidious striped pest and stay with the “second bread”. So friends, go to battle!
There is no limit to perfection
To begin with, we note that the methods of controlling the Colorado potato beetle are quite diverse: some gardeners use exclusively folk methods, while others trust the latest achievements of the chemical industry - biological and chemical drugs against striped pests. There are those who declare a complex war with these insects. However, neither one nor the other can completely exterminate these parasites. It is understandable: there is no limit to perfection, especially when the Colorado potato beetle plays the role of the enemy. To date, methods to combat this parasite only make it possible to maintain a safe number of beetles for potatoes, and not to completely exterminate them. We’ll talk about them. We are interested in precisely the folk methodology, since we still have to eat the conquered potatoes for food.
The fight against the Colorado potato beetle folk remedies:
- Colorado beetles hate various smells. Plant “foul-smelling” plants between beds: dill, garlic, beans, calendula.
- Not a single fight against the Colorado potato beetle with folk remedies is possible without spraying potatoes with various herbal infusions and decoctions. Plants such as wormwood, celandine, horsetail, dandelion, garlic, onions, hot peppers and so on are suitable for this.
- In late autumn, after harvesting, it is recommended to dig the soil deep. This will allow the pupae and beetles to surface and die from the cold.
- You can use a purely mechanical method. Place a film (litter) under the potato bushes or place a large bucket (basin) under them. With a sharp movement, hit the plant with a broom. Quite a lot of beetles and their larvae will fall into a basin or film. Destroy the trophy.
- The mechanical struggle with the Colorado potato beetle by folk remedies is also carried out by collecting them in a plastic bottle. Pour the collected pests with boiling water and throw them outside your garden. If you leave the bottle in the garden, then the softened corpses of insects will attract new individuals, which is unacceptable.
- Prepare potato peelings at home, put them in cans, pour the karbofos solution harmless to humans and potatoes and dig them flush into the ground (the edges of the can are flush with the earth's surface).
- Use rotting peel of onion. The fact is that the striped pest hates its smell. Remember, while such a husk is under a potato bush, the pest will not even look at it! When planting potatoes, it is recommended to put a little of this husk in the hole.
