In Murmansk, as in many cities of Russia, there is a neuropsychiatric dispensary. It was created back in March 1963.
How it all began
In total, there were two dispensaries in the city at that time: regional and city. There were only 10 beds in the oblast. The staff of these institutions consisted of only 14 people. There were few doctors, but they were devoted to their profession. For example, N. L. Donis initiated the opening of boarding schools in the city for children who had some defects in mental development. Over time, it was necessary to organize drug treatment for the population. Since 1968, the doctor S. Umecki has been doing this. Over time, children's psychiatrists' offices have opened at the bases of children's clinics. In connection with the expansion, new employees and premises were required. Due to their absence, patients had to be transported to the neighboring city of Apatity. But the patients were transported in shared train cars with other passengers, which, of course, was very risky, although they were accompanied by a special team.
Improvement of conditions
In 1970, by combining city and regional institutions, the Murmansk Regional Psychoneurological Dispensary was organized. Murmansk needed a similar institution. This made it possible to open inpatient departments; an office for conducting a forensic psychiatric examination was also opened. The population began to provide medical and social assistance. Due to the fact that a neuropsychiatric dispensary was opened (Murmansk), rehabilitation of patients began to be carried out in a larger volume. Initially, work was carried out in two buildings. One was a hospital, the other a dispensary. It was uncomfortable. In addition, there were not enough places to accommodate patients. But in 1977, a large building on 14 Lobova Street was transferred to a neuropsychiatric dispensary (Murmansk). This made it possible to combine all the services in one room, open a laboratory, a physiotherapy room, and a forensic examination room. Over time, the neuropsychiatric dispensary (Murmansk) acquired a new building on Sverdlova street, 2/4. This allowed the opening of a children's and adolescent department.

It is not only treated here. On the basis of the dispensary, the training of future medical personnel was organized, the organization of continuing education courses was held.
