Thermoneurosis, symptoms and treatment

Everyone is familiar with the discomfort that accompanies a rise in temperature. These are muscle pains, a heartbeat, a headache, a feeling of malaise. But here is what thermoneurosis, the symptoms of which, in fact, are the same, few know. Let's see what it is?

First, a few words about the thermoregulation of the body. It is known that in the hypothalamus, one of the structures of the brain, there is a center responsible for regulating body temperature. If it works normally, the temperature in a healthy person does not exceed 37 degrees. If, for some reason, the work of this center is disrupted, thermoneurosis may develop. Its symptoms are associated with a prolonged increase in temperature to subfebrile, that is, in the range up to 37.5 degrees. Moreover, there are no other reasons for its increase: infections, injuries, inflammatory diseases, endocrine disorders.

This temperature worries a person for a long time, sometimes up to several years. Exhausting feeling of malaise, weakness, muscle aches, palpitations, dizziness and headache reduce working capacity, significantly complicate life and cause anxiety.

Concerns arise, but is this not a manifestation of some kind of hidden serious infectious or chronic disease? Parents are especially worried when thermoneurosis in children or adolescents begins to seriously interfere with the study and development of the child. Persistent examinations begin, going to the doctors, but they do not give any result. With completely normal laboratory and other diagnostic indicators, the temperature continues to rise. Sometimes there are short-term improvements, and then it starts all over again.

Only when all possible infectious and non-infectious causes of hyperthermia are excluded can a thermoneurosis be diagnosed. The reason for this condition is a violation of the autonomic nervous system. They can be caused by a traumatic brain injury, fatigue, stress, anxiety, overwork. It turns out that thermoneurosis, the symptoms of which are associated with fever over a long time, is one of the varieties of vegetovascular dystonia.

This condition has characteristic signs. It turns out that when conducting an aspirin test (half a tablet of aspirin is given and the temperature is measured in half an hour), in case of a violation of vegetovascular regulation, the temperature does not decrease. Another difference that thermoneurosis has: its symptoms can manifest itself with a paradoxical temperature. That is, it is higher in the morning, while usually the temperature is higher in the evening. In addition, it is associated with stress, anxiety, overwork. Often the onset of the disease coincides with periods of hormonal changes in the body.

What to do if long subfebrile condition worries? First of all, you need to see a doctor so that he prescribes the necessary examinations. All inflammatory or infectious diseases, endocrine disorders, gynecological diseases and collagenoses should be excluded. Only if the results of the examination did not reveal anything, a consultation of a neuropsychiatrist is necessary. If thermoneurosis is diagnosed, the treatment consists in the appointment of sedatives, tranquilizers, which contribute to the removal of the anxiety syndrome. Treatment is prescribed individually. Recommended treatment with homeopathic remedies, acupuncture, vitamins, massage.

Be sure to establish a sleep and rest regimen, get rid of the source of constant stress and anxiety. Swimming in the pool, outdoor activities, nature trips, a contrast shower in the morning and a cool shower before going to bed are recommended. By the way, it is advised to stop measuring the temperature every now and then.

Usually, when the causes of thermoneurosis are eliminated, its manifestations cease. The prognosis for this condition is favorable. So do not lose optimism, and good health to you!
