One of the important indicators of the success of a magazine, newspaper, radio station or Internet portal is the citation rating. The value is calculated as the number of published links to material from a specific publisher or TV channel on third-party resources (in social networks, on blogs, forums, on news and thematic sites), divided by the number of days in a month and rounded to hundreds.
Rating of news agencies
The best news service serving the media is TASS, followed by the famous Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union, RIA Novosti and Interfax. In the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, are the Rambler news service and the Rosbalt news agency. The rating of the media in this category as of September 2016 has not changed for six months.
In March 2016, the PROSALT news agency lost its place to PRIME, which until then had confidently held either fifth or fourth position. For some time, Russia Today managed to gain a foothold in the top five, but the triumph lasted only a couple of months.
Print Media Rating
The rating of media outlets (periodicals and magazines) is expectedly led by Kommersant and Forbes. Publications occupy a strong position and are not going to go down to the bottom lines of the rating at all. At least in the near future this is definitely not worth expecting.
The top five periodicals are also Vedomosti and Izvestia, whose ratings are falling, stable are Rossiyskaya Gazeta and Novaya Gazeta. Among the magazines, the Russian media rating singles out in the first lines of The New Times, which is strengthening its position, Star Hit, GQ Russia and the notorious men's edition Maxim.
The best newspapers have a small margin in the citation index among themselves, while among Forbes magazines they are ahead by almost 600 points. Media ratings among print media are more subject to fluctuations than lists of top news agencies or online portals.
Online Media Rating
Leading positions are traditionally held by Rbc.ru, Lenta.ru and Life.ru. From time to time Gazeta.ru breaks into the top three, but for a long time the portal does not linger in the top lines of the rating. Also in the top five St. Petersburg Fontanka.ru.
Rating of radio stations and TV channels
The most cited radio stations in September 2016 recognized Ekho Moskvy and Says Moscow. Radio Liberty broke into third position when, as early as August, Vesti FM, and earlier the Russian News Service, occupied the honorable third place. The media rating among radio stations is generally stable, but an ongoing struggle has been waged for third place for six months now. The leading position was then held steadily by the Russian News Service, and today's leaders fought for the bronze.
As for television channels, a serious fight broke out. The rating of the media changes with an enviable frequency, only the Russia 24 TV channel, which now occupies the first line, is more or less stable among the leaders. At the moment, silver and bronze belong to Channel One and RT, respectively.
