Hunting belt for trees: will not let pests to the crown

How to protect your garden from insatiable pests? Of course, there is a whole arsenal of chemical plant protection products. Well, if you want the protection of trees from pests to be, and do not bother the chemistry of your pets again? There is such a tool.

Hunting belt for trees
Remember: the vast majority of garden pests eat leaf juices. Therefore, they all aspire to the crown - and beetles, and caterpillars, and ants, carefully transferring to the "pasture" aphids. And the broadest road leads to the crown of the tree - its trunk. Is it possible to put an insurmountable barrier on it for harmful insects?

Can. This barrier is called tree hunting belts. Their task is to physically prevent the reaching of foliage of garden plantings by pests, including their capture and destruction.

Each hunting belt for trees is structurally very simple and does not require special frills in the manufacture. Most often, it is made in the form of a funnel, wrapped around the trunk and directed by its bell from top to bottom, to the ground. Practice shows that it is the funnel that most effectively “catches” harmful insects traveling up the trunk.

So, the design, in principle, is understandable. But the question is: if you make a hunting belt for trees, then from what material?

Tree protection
It’s easier and faster to make such obstacles out of paper or cardboard. But immediately it becomes clear: such hunting belts - until the first rain. Although, if there is an opportunity to quickly remove them before the weather, this tool is the best of disposable ones. Much better suited for the manufacture of hunting belts burlap or glass wool. And that's why.

To enhance the "collective" ability of the trapping belt, it is desirable to impregnate its inner side with either an effective insecticide or an adhesive substance. Then all the evil spirits trying to overcome the obstacle will certainly not pass - it will either die or stick tightly inside. In addition, fiberglass itself is incredibly difficult to overcome, even without soaking.

A more "long-playing" version of the hunting belt, which ensures the protection of trees, is a "skirt" made of rubber. It is easy to wrap a pre-prepared pattern around the trunk, tightly tied to it or glued with carpentry glue. To enhance the effect, you can still wrap the edges of the "skirt", and pour a little sticky substance or sunflower oil into the formed groove. Insects caught in the groove will no longer get out of there.

Protecting trees from pests
Each hunting belt for trees needs to be attached to the trunk so that there are no gaps between it and the bark. If they still couldn’t be avoided, then it’s okay: ordinary plasticine is useful for puttying.

One more tip: if it is possible to color the hunting belts, paint them green. This will immediately make them attractive to pests and not of any interest to beneficial insects, for example, honey plants.

Regularly check each hunting belt for trees; if necessary, soak it again with an insecticide. As soon as enough insects accumulate inside the hunting belt, carefully untie it from the trunk, move it outside the garden area and be sure to burn it. Only this method will mean the irretrievable destruction of garden pests.
