Mayonnaise has many haters, however, it continues to be the most common cold sauce.
Fans of this product eat it just like that, spreading it on bread. Some eat it with tomatoes or cucumbers. But few people know that at home you can make a delicious mayonnaise sauce, which is perfect as a salad dressing, and as an addition to the main dish. There are many recipes, and you can choose any of them. Everyone knows tartar and aioli sauces. Why not try to cook something more original?
The easiest and most delicious option
The easiest way to make sour cream-mayonnaise sauce with your own hands . It can be served separately as a dressing, or used as an ingredient for pasta with cheese. To prepare it you will need:
- Any quality mayonnaise.
- Sour cream.
- Garlic powder.
- Black pepper.
- Any dried herbs to taste.
Mix the ingredients in any proportion to taste. If you want to season pasta with this sauce, mix it with grated hard cheese and add to freshly prepared pasta.
Mustard Option
Mustard sauces can be found everywhere, and most often they are served with seafood, chicken or junk food. They combine especially well with french fries, successfully replacing the usual ketchup.
To make mustard mustard sauce, you will need:
- 1 1/4 cup mayonnaise;
- A quarter cup of mustard (sweet);
- 1 tablespoon sweet paprika;
- 1-2 teaspoons of universal seasoning from dried herbs;
- 2 teaspoons grated horseradish;
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (preferably Tabasco);
- 1 large clove of garlic, finely mashed.
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. It is best to leave this mayonnaise sauce for a few hours to allow the flavors to mix. Store strictly in the refrigerator.
Option with mustard and sour cream
This versatile mayonnaise sauce has many ingredients. Thanks to this bouquet of aromas, it is suitable for everything - french fries, hamburgers and fried chicken, as well as for salads. You can also add more or less of each ingredient, guided by your personal tastes.
This sauce is especially easy to make if you have leftover buttermilk from baking or making pancakes. Buttermilk in this recipe is replaced with sour cream. Everything else is just added to taste. If desired, you can supplement the dish with finely grated blue cheese.
Ingredients for the classic recipe:
- 1 tbsp. sour cream or Greek yogurt;
- half a glass of mayonnaise;
- 1/8 teaspoon of tea paprika;
- 1/4 teaspoon mustard tea powder;
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice;
- 1/2 teaspoon of tea salt;
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper;
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley;
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh green onions;
- 1/4 teaspoon of dry dill (or a teaspoon of chopped fresh).
In a medium bowl, mix sour cream and mayonnaise until smooth. Add other ingredients, adjusting their amount to your taste. Ready mayonnaise sauce should be stored in the refrigerator.
Option for french fries
Few people eat french fries or burgers without a tasteful sauce. Most fast food lovers confine themselves to mixing equal parts of ketchup and mayonnaise without thinking of coming up with a more interesting combination of tastes.
The original potato mayonnaise sauce includes the following ingredients:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise;
- 2 tablespoons ketchup;
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar;
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper;
- 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt.
In a small bowl, mix all the foods. Adjust their proportions to taste as needed. You can store the finished product in a closed container for 3 days (in the refrigerator).
Classic or tartar option
Mayonnaise, pickles and lemon juice are all you need to create a homemade sauce that is perfect for adding a spicy flavor to all your favorite fish recipes.
Just mix the following products:
- 1 cup light mayonnaise ;
- 1/4 cup sweet cucumber pickle;
- 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.
Option garlic or aioli sauce
This product is somewhat different from the above in that it is advisable to cook it from scratch, rather than using store mayonnaise. Otherwise, the taste of the finished sauce will not be so saturated. Take the following products:
- 2 garlic teeth, crushed;
- 1 teaspoon of sea salt;
- 2 egg yolks;
- 1 cup olive oil;
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice;
- 2 teaspoons whole grain mustard;
- 1 tablespoon of water.
Stir the garlic, salt and egg yolks in a small bowl of the food processor until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Without turning off the unit, slowly add oil through a tube, beat until a thick mayonnaise is formed. Transfer the resulting product into a bowl.
Combine lemon juice and mustard and pour the mixture into mayonnaise. Add water to taste. Cover the surface of the sauce bowl with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until serving.
