In the eighties of the last century, the US military announced a tender for an SUV for their own use. It was for this purpose that the Jeep Lamborghini was created . The model was called LM002. It was a light and at the same time roomy car, which was characterized by high traffic and the ability to install weapons. Despite this, the Italians failed to become the winners of the competition, since the local “Hammer” won it. For this reason, only 300 copies of this model from the Lamborghini were produced. Although the tender was lost, representatives of the Italian automobile concern suggested that the car could well be used for civilian purposes. As a result, in 1986, during the auto show in the Belgian city of Brussels, the official first presentation of the model took place, which after that was made for another seven years. Jeep "Lamborghini" was equipped with a 450-horsepower carburetor engine with a volume of 5.2 liters. It had a V-shape and consisted of twelve cylinders. The power unit functioned in conjunction with a five-speed “mechanics”. The maximum possible speed of the SUV is 200 km / h, and fuel consumption under these conditions is 53 liters per hundred kilometers. One of the main advantages of the car is that the Lamborghini jeep has a high cross-country ability and stability, which are successfully combined with soft driving, even in the conditions of loose roads. The manufacturer was able to achieve this largely due to the wide tires.
Chassis and interior
Now a few words about the chassis. Designers installed front ventilated brakes on the SUV. In addition, each of the discs boasts the presence of two calipers. At the rear, a drum brake system was used. This decision was dictated primarily by the large mass of the car, because the Lamborghini jeep weighed about three tons. The inclusion of the front-wheel drive was possible only through a special key. This caused some discomfort, since the driver needed to leave the cabin for this. According to experts, this was the main reason that the American army abandoned the LM002 and made its choice in favor of the Hammer. This is not surprising, because in combat conditions such a feature was life-threatening. The interior of the SUV is hardly spacious. It is visually divided into two halves by a cardan shaft, which greatly complicates the movement from the rear seats to the front. As for the adjustment, only the seats located in front move here.
Production completion
Despite the efforts of the designers of the Lamborghini, the car still remained purely army. The hopes regarding the interest of the Arab sheikhs, for whom he turned out to be very modest, did not materialize either. This was the reason that the car was removed from the conveyor in 1993. For some time the car was used by the armed forces of Saudi Arabia, Libya and Lebanon. If we talk about the cost of such an unusual car as a Lamborghini jeep, its price now averages 120 thousand US dollars, which is equivalent to 4 million rubles.
