The familiar and controversial flower has long won the hearts of European and Western brides. But until the end of the 90s, it was rarely possible to meet a wedding bouquet of carnations at domestic marriage ceremonies.
Now that modern floristry has appreciated the beauty of flower arrangements called Dianthus, many brides choose carnations not only as a basis for a bouquet, but also for interior decoration for a banquet.
Often decorated with flowers are boutonnieres, which are attached to ribbons and tied on the wrists of the bridesmaids. Agree that the plant surprisingly resembles delicate lace. After all, it was not for nothing that the wise Greeks called it the "flower of Zeus."
4 reasons to choose carnations
- They have a beautiful appearance. Luxurious buds allow you to create not only combinations with other plants, but also chic mono-bouquets.
- They are distinguished by the ability to store their freshness for a long time.
- Available year round, so they are used at wedding ceremonies at any time.
- They have a delicate aroma, which is considered a big plus for brides who do not tolerate pungent odors.
Views and shades
Nature and ornamental gardening number more than 300 varieties of sophisticated plants. But more often, only 3 are used to make a wedding bouquet of carnations:
- “Bearded” or Turkish - florists fell in love due to the special structure of bracts, which are covered with “cilia” along the edge.
- Chinese - large flowers with a simple or terry structure. In addition, these carnations have a characteristic edging of a different shade, which makes the bouquet more spectacular.
- Shabo is a garden variety with large fragrant single flowers. The breeding species is cultivated in all European countries, therefore it has a wide palette of petals.
According to florists, the listed varieties are considered optimal, especially the classic version - white carnations. A wedding bouquet using these varieties always looks fresh and beautiful.
But no one canceled the experiments: for example, instead of the traditional spherical composition, choose a basket of purple, lilac-pink or raspberry alpine cloves with rugged edges and a slightly corrugated surface.
Wedding florists should love these flowers at least for the fact that they pamper with a variety of shades. The buds can be with a pensive lavender color, pristine white, classic red or pale pink. No less fabulous look is acquired by bouquets of carnations, the petals of which are painted in sunny orange, bright purple or saturated green.
Combination with other plants
Romantic and tender lisianthus are a bit like roses. It was this similarity that gave them a second name - the Japanese rose. Lisianthus come in different shades, but the most spectacular in the composition look lilac and white.
A wedding bouquet of carnations and roses will become an elegant accessory in the hands of the newlywed. Amazing beauty and nobility turned roses into the favorite flowers of florists. Plants will look interesting both in one shade and in colors that are compatible with each other.
Extraordinarily tender it turns out a bouquet of lace caps of large buds of carnations and small freesias, irises and alstromeries. Such combinations are recommended to be diluted with branches of greenery.
Carnation and eustoma in a wedding bouquet will look most original with maple leaves, rowan berries and pine branches.
Pink or white?
A wedding bouquet of carnations can be entered into almost any style of the wedding ceremony. The main thing is to choose the right palette of shades, a combination of colors with other plants.
For instance:
- A classic-style wedding is impossible to imagine without a bouquet of snow-white carnations.
- If the theme of the celebration involves shabby chic, then in this case, flowers in a pastel pink or cream palette are ideal.
- Ecostyle will not do without green carnations.
- Vintage will complement the bouquet of lilac tones, while it is recommended to give preference not to a spherical, but to a falling composition.
- Even the glamor did not remain indifferent to the "colors of Zeus." In this case, terry "Zeus flowers" will fit perfectly into the bride’s image.
Design options for a wedding bouquet of carnations: photo
Tussi Moussi. Many years ago, these floral arrangements were presented to girls, wanting to compliment and talk about their feelings.
A round-shaped bouquet is the most popular choice of brides, as it is combined with a dress of any style.
Pomander - a spherical frame gives it the shape of a ball, which resembles a ball on a ribbon. Basically, it is created from chrysanthemums, roses or carnations.
A cascading bouquet is a real flower waterfall, effectively flowing from the hands of the bride, which are made up of plants of different lengths. The composition is large enough, so tall girls choose it.
Basket. The most beneficial wedding bouquet will look exactly in this design. To create the stems of decorative branches are intertwined and flower buds are inserted into each hole.
Harmony with the image
As mentioned earlier, the petals of carnations resemble lace, which means that a bouquet of these flowers will perfectly complement any dress: from a fluffy to a mermaid style, and will add femininity to a snow-white trouser suit.
The main thing is that the shade of the plants does not argue with the main tone of the wedding attire. For example, there can be no harmony if the bride’s dress is cream and the bouquet was made of beige carnations. It’s easier to play in contrasts: a white outfit and red flowers. But even in this case, purple or pink carnations will be appropriate.
The second option is to harmonize with the elements of the groom’s wardrobe. For example, a wedding bouquet of purple cloves to a tie of the same shade.
Symbolic language
Florists claim that carnation is the personification of female love, honor, fidelity and freedom. In Ancient Greece and Rome, "Zeus flowers" were woven into the wreaths of ruling persons, the nobility and handed to the winners.
- white carnations - a peculiar wish to the guests success and good luck;
- yellow - this color is recommended to be used not in the composition, but in the decoration of the wedding decor, as a rule, such carnations were given for one purpose: to find out the relationship, the reasons for resentment and inattention;
- pink - a symbol of maternal love;
- striped - not very suitable for such an important celebration, because in the language of flowers they express a firm "no."
DIY wedding bouquet of carnations
Do you want the bride to have an original floral arrangement at the wedding ceremony? Do it yourself. So a piece of your soul will appear in the wedding accessory.
To create a bouquet you will need:
• 11 pcs. Turkish carnations;
• 15 pcs. lilies of the valley;
• 10 pieces. hyacinths;
• 5 pieces. greenery of myrtle;
• for each flower, 45 cm of floristic wire;
• glue;
• scissors;
• floristic paper.
Process of creation:
1. It is recommended to start preparing the composition a couple of hours before the ceremony. Before forming a wedding bouquet of white carnations, plants should be put in cool water for 3 hours.
2. Take each clove and cut the stem below the bud, backing off about 3 cm.
3. A 45-cm wire pierce the stem at the base of the flower and extend the floristic rod so that their ends are at the same level.
4. Wrap the artificial stem several times with tape. Start at the puncture site and bring to the end of the rod.
5. Cut leaves from lilies of the valley and form bunches of 5-6 pieces. Wrap first with a floristic rod, then with paper. Set aside the cut leaves - they will be needed at the time the bouquet is formed.
6. 11 carnations to collect in a bunch in the form of a heart. Be careful as the buds are too fragile. After completing the assembly, you will notice that voids have formed in the composition.
7. Fill the empty seats with myrtle branches, hyacinths and bunches of lilies of the valley.
8. Insert lily of the valley leaves into the remaining voids. Tie the stems with a floral ribbon.
9. Wrap the base of the wedding composition in a spiral with a satin ribbon, fix with glue and optionally add decor.
Difficulties in choosing: buds or miniature carnations
Modern floristry decorates floral arrangements with various little things - rhinestones, sequins, ribbons, pearls and even a brooch. The choice of a wedding bouquet depends on makeup, dresses and hairstyles.
Young brides are encouraged to give preference to unopened buds as a symbol of innocence. Blossoming carnations are suitable for girls of mature age. In the bouquet of miniature brides, the Shabo variety will look the most advantageous.
In the end, I would like to note that these are just general recommendations, because the wedding day is a great opportunity for incredible experiments. In any case, the right bouquet of carnations will help tell the bride what she wants the guests to hear on the happiest day of her life.
