For a long time, an allergy was an undesirable companion of mankind. Cough, runny nose, lacrimation, spasm of the larynx - all these troubles could accompany its manifestation. Allergies can be seasonal in nature and manifest in
certain time of the year. Then its appearance is associated with any seasonal processes, for example, with flowering plants. Also, the manifestation of an
allergic reaction can occur from exposure to allergens that are not related to the seasonal factor. This, for example, concerns the reaction to animal hair or to taking medications. Allergy cough is one of the most common symptoms.
The cause of allergic cough
As a result of the action of allergens, histamine is released into the human body. This leads to a violation of the microcirculation of the blood and swelling of the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract. With edema, irritation of the receptors occurs. The reaction of the body to such processes is a dry cough. Allergy is most pronounced in children. Their edema occurs very quickly and can be accompanied by chest pressure, suffocation and even vomiting.
What is the difference between a cough for allergies and a cold cough?
A person can cough for various reasons. This raises the question of accurate diagnosis. Indeed, the correct choice of treatment methods depends on the diagnosis. There are several characteristic signs that make it possible to establish the allergic nature of cough:
- An allergy cough is dry. When it manifests itself, as a rule, viscous sputum does not stand out.
- Such a cough is not accompanied by symptoms characteristic of a common cold. For example, there is no increase in body temperature.
- Attacks of an allergic cough can last a long time and not bring relief.
- Allergies cough worse in the presence of allergens. The seasonal manifestation of cough during the flowering period of plants also indicates the allergic nature of cough.
