Three quarters of all fires occurring in the country are recorded in residential buildings. Each year, over fifteen thousand people die as a result of them. Therefore, it is so important to take effective measures for a comfortable and safe living of people. And one of these measures is to tighten regulatory requirements for such a factor as fire safety of buildings and structures. Compulsory fire insurance should be introduced in residential premises. And the population should be well informed about the necessary security measures.
Here are some basic fire safety guidelines developed in accordance with SNiP.
- In residential buildings, specific engineering and construction solutions are provided that guarantee the possibility of timely and affordable evacuation of all residents, regardless of their age and state of health.
- Fire safety of buildings and structures should exclude the spread of fire to nearby facilities, to limit as much as possible the damage they cause - both direct and indirect.
- At the stage of building construction, it is fire prevention measures (of course, provided by the project) that are priority. Fire safety in construction is observed in a strictly established manner.
- During the operation of residential buildings, structural, engineering and technical changes and volumetric alterations are not allowed without an appropriate project providing for the fire safety of buildings and structures.
- Some projects receive permission for their construction under certain conditions: limiting the fire load or the number of people who may be in a particular part of the building. In this case, inside, in a prominent place, notifications of these restrictions should be located, and the administration is required to develop certain organizational measures.
- Fire safety of buildings and structures should be carried out taking into account the location of the respective fire departments and their technical equipment.
If we compare the fire safety requirements for residential buildings and industrial premises, we can see that the latter, as a rule, are more stringent. Finishing materials for warehouse or industrial buildings should have improved characteristics with respect to combustibility, smoke, toxin release. For materials for decoration inside apartments such strict restrictions are not imposed. As a result of this,
carpets, wall decoration materials that are highly flammable and emit a large amount of hazardous combustion products are often used in residential premises.
In addition, thousands of household gas explosions are recorded in the kitchens of many homes every year. If measures to improve the situation are not taken, this can lead to grave consequences. Therefore, modern regulatory regulation of the level of fire safety serves to reduce damage from accidents and draws attention to the existing problems in this area.
