Bathroom. Today, its purpose and practicality are rethought in many ways. We want beauty and comfort even in this secluded corner of an apartment or house. Especially attracted and attracted by numerous design projects of bathrooms, in large quantities shown on television and on the Internet. However, not so long ago, the issue of planning the bathroom was not so relevant. Many had to be content with what the developer provided for them.
In the fifties, in the so-called Stalinist building, bathrooms were designed with an area of not more than ten squares. Since there were not too many material benefits and achievements, this area was quite enough. The Khrushchevs who replaced the "Stalin" were characterized by a combined bathroom, the area of which was limited to three squares. Most of the room was occupied by a bulky bathtub cast from cast iron. But there were no such concepts as a “shower stall” or a “shower tray”.
Today, the problems of small area remained, since most of the population still lives in old houses. However, the options for improving the functionality of bathrooms have become much more. The question of choice remains difficult. What to give preference to: a bath or a shower stall? Consider the pros and cons to prioritize.
Bath: advantages and disadvantages
The modern market offers a wide range of bathtubs made of various materials: metal, acrylic, cast iron, plastic. They differ in size, color and shape, which allows you to install them on any area. In addition, there is always a wide variety of furniture, so that in one room you can place all the necessary little things and accessories. Such a bathroom looks aesthetically pleasing and beautiful.
The question of love for the bath is very individual and depends on personal preferences. She fits:
- those who like to bask in the warm water in the evening, relaxing and plunging into it with their whole body;
- for families with small children, whom to bathe in the shower, even if the shower tray is deep, uncomfortable;
- for those who use the bathtub by installing shower accessories, without a shower tray.
However, there are also disadvantages. First of all, it is:
- high water consumption and, as a result, the cost of utilities;
- high sides of the bathtub, which are often impossible to overcome without the help of the elderly or disabled;
- it takes more time to take a bath (if it is not there, it’s easier to install a shower tray and use a shower);
- Despite the variety of forms, the bath still takes up a lot of space that could be used for a washing machine or an additional cabinet.
It is worth saying a few words about shower stalls, highlighting their advantages and identifying disadvantages.
Showers: advantages and disadvantages
Showers are increasingly becoming an alternative to a traditional bathtub. Nevertheless, there is always a certain amount of doubt: is it worth it to change the usual bath, used for many years, to a shower stall.
Define the advantages of modern shower options:
- The shower cabin goes on sale in a full complete set that allows to equip a bathroom with all necessary elements in one fell swoop.
- There are many models of showers, differing in functional content and design.
- Water consumption when bathing in the shower is much less.
- The shower tray is usually replaceable, small in size, which generally saves space in the room.
The disadvantages include the fact that bathing young children in such a device is uncomfortable. In many showers, the shower tray is steel, when used, every drop of water that falls on it is given a sonorous echo throughout the apartment.
