The popular UAZ SUV, manufactured in Ulyanovsk, can rightfully be considered the most enduring Russian car. He deserved such a characteristic not only because of its cross-country ability, but also due to its carrying capacity. Even an old βbobikβ (UAZ-469) can easily transport two adults and 600 kilograms of luggage. The UAZ car is capable of more, only for this you need a trailer. It will add at least another half ton to the total load capacity.

Requirements for trailers for UAZ vehicles

GAZ-704 trailer
It is a uniaxial onboard platform for the transport of goods. GAZ-69 and GAZ-69A should be used as the main tractors for this trailer according to its performance characteristics.
The design of the trailer is quite primitive and is a metal platform, welded to the frame, with a folding rear side. It has no braking system: neither working nor parking. The suspension consists of two longitudinal type springs and two shock absorbers. GAZ-704 was equipped with an awning, which could be removed and put into a special box located in front of the platform.
The payload of the trailer is 500 kg. The ground clearance under the load is 28 cm. Despite the fact that the GAZ-704 trailer together with the GAZ-69 was withdrawn not only from production, but also from armaments in 1998, the model still comes across on the roads. Nowadays, the UAZ car is perfect as a tractor for this model of trailers.
UAZ-8109
In its design, the UAZ-8109 trailer is almost identical to its ancestor GAZ-704: one axle, the same suspension and tent. Even the payload is the same 500 kg. The significant difference is that the trailer platform can be dismantled and use one frame without a body.
There are also no brakes on the new model, but two βshoesβ (emphasis) are included in the kit, which must be put under the wheels during parking.
The wheels on the trailer, as well as their hubs, are completely unified under the UAZ-469, which, according to the characteristics of the trailer, is supposed to be used as the main tractor for its transportation.
To date, the UAZ-8109 trailer is the most popular and common among owners of UAZ SUVs. Manufacturers of modern models take the design of this model as the basis for the manufacture of new products.
The main advantage of such a trailer can be considered high ground clearance with a short base. This allows you to use it in adverse conditions, on roads with poor traffic.
In a word, the entire UAZ-8109 design is considered the most successful both for the UAZ-469 car and its modifications, and for the UAZ Patriot.
Universal trailers for UAZ
The UAZ-8109 trailer has a narrow focus on one brand of car. Modern manufacturers of trailers produce models that are suitable for any Russian SUV. They are equipped with wheels designed for a specific tractor (UAZ or Niva).
That is, a tire with a size of 225/75 and a R16 disk will be installed on the trailer for the UAZ Patriot. At the same time, the distance from the coupling head to the roadway will be 55 cm. In addition, in such modifications of the trailers, the wheel hubs are strengthened by installing two bearings in them. Shock absorbers in trailers for UAZ vehicles are hydraulic.
Modifications
Depending on what cargo will be transported on the trailer, its modification is selected.
If you plan to transport long and heavy loads, such as boats, you will need a trailer with two axles. It is unsuitable for impassability, therefore, going on a trip, you should think over the route in advance and exclude problem sections of the road from it. In addition, such a trailer obliges the driver to have the right open category "E", since the total weight will exceed 750 kg.
If the trailer is planned to be used in a fairly wide range, for example, for transportation of bulk cargo, it makes sense to purchase a dump truck. This is a universal modification that has a large scope. Often manufacturers equip such trailers with a winch with a lifting capacity of up to 550 kg. This addition makes it possible to use a tipper trailer for transporting an ATV. The winch will greatly facilitate its loading into the body.
For transportation of small loads, a single-axle trailer for UAZ, made on the basis of the 8109 model, is quite suitable.
For all trailer modifications, the manufacturer provides for the use of a waterproof tent, which will protect the cargo from wind and rainfall.
Trailer Service
The trailer for the UAZ, like a car, needs some attention and care.
Ideally, it is, of course, best kept in a dry garage to minimize the effects of corrosion on parts. But, as a rule, there is no place next to the car for the trailer, so in the open air it needs to be kept under a canopy or waterproof tent. We must not forget that the trailer body is a kind of container in which moisture can accumulate, and this will inevitably lead to the formation of corrosion.
After operation, especially in wet weather, the trailer must be washed and remove dirt from the joints of parts. Such a measure will not allow rust to develop. It is necessary to periodically check the condition of the bearings of the hubs of the rings and lubricate them as necessary. Observe the tire pressure of the trailer in accordance with the operating instructions. No need to overload the trailer - this can lead to failure of its suspension.
Monitor the condition of the electrical wiring contacts of the unit. Timely remove oxidation products, as well as carefully monitor the status of the light alarm. Faulty lighting fixtures can cause an accident.
Do not forget that using a trailer turns the car into a road train - the radius of skidding and turning increases. Therefore, when purchasing a trailer, you need to pay attention to the shape of the device connecting the trailer to the tractor.
Trailer drawbar
Trailers are available with two types of connecting devices (drawbar): T-shaped and triangular. The triangular-shaped connector has an advantage over the T-shaped one not only in terms of reliability, but also in terms of controllability. In addition, drivers often use it as a platform for a spare tire.
Regardless of the modification, the UAZ trailer, with proper operation and good care, can last for decades.
