In recent years, such a topic as polygamy has become increasingly discussed. What it is? The word that can best characterize this phenomenon is polygamy. That is, this is such a situation in which a marriage is concluded simultaneously between one partner of the same sex and several - of the opposite.
Polygamy in humans can be of two varieties. For their designation, the terms "polygyny" and "polyandry" are used. Polygyny is widely practiced in
Islamic states and involves the presence of several wives in one husband. Polyandry, in turn, implies polygamy.
The mere presence of these terms confirms that both men and women are equally prone to such a thing as polygamy. What is it, we have already said above, but it is equally important to note that in the original meaning this term means marriage, that is, a serious relationship involving mutual responsibility, mutual responsibilities and joint management, which is not the same as licentiousness.
Nevertheless, psychologists argue that the nature of most women has monogamy in nature. Some cite as evidence that during the cycle, only one egg matures in a woman’s body, while others are of the opinion that the desire to find the only permanent partner is due mainly to religious influence and the centuries-old traditions of many nations.
Men, on the contrary, actively support the opinion that polygamy is inherent in them initially. Often, it is with this pseudoscientific statement that they seek to justify the inability to remain faithful to one person, the desire to constantly seek new and new partners, to diversify their sex life.
What leads to the development of such quality as polygamy? What are these reasons? Let's try to figure this out together.
- Lack of maternal or paternal attention. Men in such a situation, as a rule, seek in their partners not only a potential spouse, but also a man who could replace his mother. An image of some ideal is formed in their subconscious, and in its search they can replace many women. Girls who enter into several relationships at once combine the virtues of all their partners: the wit of one, the wisdom of the second, the attractiveness of the third, etc. Mentally they unite all these people in a single ideal image of a strong, handsome and smart man.
- Internal complexes. Self-doubt is one of the most common causes of polygamy, when a person seeks to assert himself due to the fact that several people love him.
- Powerful parents. Excessive severity on the part of parents can also be one of the factors in the appearance of such a phenomenon as polygamy. What does it mean? Even having matured, a person subconsciously fears to be influenced by a new tyrant and therefore prefers to avoid serious long-term relationships.
- The psychological unpreparedness of a person to build a family, to bear responsibility not only for himself, but also for other people.
Monogamy, polygamy are also present in the animal kingdom. Moreover, among representatives of the same species, both monogamous and polygamous females and males may be present.
