When heated, the spring expands, and when cooled, it compresses. Due to this property, it is possible to obtain the necessary proportions of cold and hot water. Sometimes bimetallic rings act as a thermocouple, working approximately on the same principle as a spring of two metals.
The mixer with thermostat can be built-in or external. The first type is most interesting from an aesthetic point of view, because installation can be done in a finished box in a niche. After that, you just need to bring all communications and close the cavity with a decorative panel. The built-in part of the same manufacturer itself has standard sizes and is equipped with decorative overlays. As for the models of the external type, their design is very diverse, so without much difficulty it will turn out to choose the right option.
