Wolves are beautiful, but dangerous predatory animals. They are often found in fairy tales, legends and myths. They can be seen in cartoons and artworks, in paintings and as sculptures. And in this article we will look at how easy it is to draw a wolf howling at the moon.
Head sketch
It is best to start with a light sketch without pressing too hard on the pencil. Here's how to draw a wolf howling at the moon in stages:
- In the upper right corner of the sheet, draw a circle to indicate the head of a howling wolf. Remember to leave enough space below for the body of the animal.
- Draw two figures resembling arches on the top of the circle, sketching the face of a wolf.
- Outline the ears with another arc on the left side of the head.
Body sketch
Next, to draw a wolf howling at the moon, we proceed to create a sketch of the body. To do this, draw two large circles under your head. They should be about twice as large as the one you marked the head with. Also, the second circle should be slightly left to the first. Let's continue.
Under each circle, draw two bent lines to outline the location of future paws. Then draw some lines that connect the main shapes and form the body of the wolf. In the lower left side of the body, draw a curved line to outline the tail of the animal.
On this initial draft is ready. Now, to draw a wolf howling at the moon, you need to add some details.
Refine the picture
Draw a short, thick line at the top of the first circle, depicting a closed eye. Add a few small lines around it as extra detail or shadow.
Draw the nose of the wolf on the tip of the muzzle. Darken the line at its edge, and then draw the nostrils. Add a shadow to the inside of the nose, applying a lighter shade than the nostrils.
Use the previously drawn arches to depict the rest of the wolf's face. Add a tiny curved line near the top and bottom of the mouth to make a protruding tooth. Make the lower lip line a little thicker. Draw the animal’s chin in small, short lines, simulating the coat.
On the left, draw the wolf’s ears and add some small strokes to their middle. Using the circle originally drawn, draw the animal’s head with small, short strokes to make the outline look like fur. In the future, in order to draw a wolf howling at the moon, all lines must be drawn in such a way, since the whole body of the animal is covered with wool.
Using the landmark on the right, draw the leg of the wolf. Do not forget that the animal has joints and they should not be absolutely straight. Add a few lines below to show your toes and claws. Behind the first front paw, draw the visible part of the second.
Focusing on the lower circle and the bent line on a sketch, depict the hind limb of the animal. Add claws and fingers from the bottom, as well as the front. Do not forget to finish the visible part of the hind leg and add details to it.
In small strokes, draw the rest of the body of the wolf, uniting all the circles in two lines. From the bottom left, draw a tail with slightly longer lines.
Shutdown
After you draw a wolf howling at the moon, you can gently wipe off all the auxiliary lines, and the main ones need to be re-drawn with a softer pencil. So the body of the animal will become more expressive.
Draw the moon your wolf howls at. Lightly paint over it with a simple pencil, and draw a small shadow from below. The drawing is almost ready. You can also add some shading to the body of the wolf or completely make it black.
