At the moment, in the modern world there is a situation of acute shortage of real men. When observing various kinds of subcultures, the question naturally arises: male character - what kind? Moreover, they suffer not only women, but also men. There is a crisis of self-identification of the male population. Thus, in answering a specific question, we decided to consider different options for the ideal man. After all, whatever one may say, the question of a truly masculine character leads the thinking person towards the ideal image of the representative of the stronger sex. To make the article not too boring, we decided to mix movie heroes, literary characters and ordinary people into a cool cocktail.

Definition of character and its formation

Academic definitions of character are boring and incomprehensible to an unprepared reader, so we will try to answer the question of character in our own way and as simple as possible.

Confucius said: "Sow a thought - reap an action, sow an action - reap a habit, sow a habit - reap a character, sow a character - reap a fate."

Thus, character is a system of internal qualities of a person that determines a person’s attitude to himself, the world and other people.

How it is formed, psychology, of course, knows, but all this, more likely, is similar to hypotheses. Why this person, and not the other, is still a mystery. But psychologists can still draw a general outline. There are two main factors: education and physiological individual characteristics. Based on this, we can say that the male character is a balanced ratio of favorable external conditions and internal qualities. Example: parents instill in their child the habit of setting goals and achieving goals. It happens the other way around: a person develops an inner core in himself in order to avoid the harmful influence of relatives and to escape from their influence. In short, it happens in different ways, but when you are over twenty-five, it’s a shame to complain about your parents. If by this age a person has not become anyone, then this is purely his problem. This is with regard to the topic of “character determination”.

Proletarian

There are still those on Russian land who do not sell cell phones, insurance, sausages, and so on. It is possible and even shorter: there are still those who do not trade. Such men gradually die out, as their habitat disappears. It is, of course, about people of working specialties. Take for example a man working in a factory.

The reader will say: is this an ideal, and where does the male character? Dear reader, have patience and imagine the life of a simple worker. He gets up every day, except weekends, at 6:30 and so for 30 or 60 years (usually they come to the plant quite early). A certain courage is needed here in order to live like this day after day.

Strengths and weaknesses of the proletariat as a type

Secular lionesses and other girls with a claim are hard to believe that this type of man can attract. And yet it is. You can even say that this image of a man has a strong character.

Merits. In this case, a man conquers women with his simplicity, lack of frills. If the proletarian does not have serious personality flaws, he may even belong to the middle class in terms of income.

The trouble is that in any case, a person is oppressed by the routine in the work and the absence of a higher meaning in it.

If the proletarian is a person not prone to bad habits, then he will work for the benefit of the family and children. True, for this it is necessary that a woman he gets sensitive and understanding.

Disadvantages. It should be said that the severity of physical work involves certain types of relaxation that do not promise a person who practices them, nothing good. For example, we can recall the life model of a colleague in the laundry of such a literary hero as Martin Eden.

Manager is the hero of our time

It is difficult to say whether the collective image of a manager has a masculine character. But considering that now we have almost everything managers, we probably have. Imagine that the store manager came to him initially as a cleaner, and then, thanks to a chain of accidents, he became the director.

Although, probably, in Russian realities it is difficult to imagine such a scenario. By the way, the plot of the film “The Secret of My Success” with Michael J. Fox in the title role is built on a chain of well-organized accidents.

Is the manager an enviable groom?

Merits. If we imagine that there is still such a person in Russia (although this is implausible), then his undoubted strengths will be that he has risen from the bottom and knows the value of money. He achieved everything himself. About the imaginary hero of our time, we can definitely say that he has a strong character. Almost any achievement in life is based on fortitude. In such cases, people say that a person has a core.

Negative qualities . It is difficult to say here, the manager does not imply any specific professional deformations. It all depends on the person. We rise further along the social ladder.

Middle arm businessman

For example, the owner of a construction company in a provincial town, not necessarily a small one. In general, in fact, the company can be any, even for the production of downy shawls. The main thing is not this. This type determines a relatively high income and a sense of self-worth. He is not used to the limitations of his own desires. If someone asks: is the masculine character about him? Of course, in order to organize your own business in Russia, you need to have not only fortitude, but also courage.

Does the profession greatly affect the businessman in family life?

It’s hard to say, all individually. It all depends on the moral content of each individual. The difficulty is that a business can be rooted in a person, or it can just be a job that a person does well. Therefore, variations are possible. When a good person is family oriented, he will be an exemplary husband. If the family is of little interest to him and he made an alliance for the sake of household amenities, then such a man will treat his wife as an interior item. But our task is analytics, so we digress from these conventions and boldly rush to look for the shortcomings of the rich man.

Of course, according to women, he is a strong man. The proof of his power is precisely the means that he was able to earn.

In times when much is valued in money, people are ready to worship the one who could tame them.

Disadvantages of a millionaire as a type

Awkward, but still have to break this bright image.

Firstly, the wife of a millionaire is a thing and a tool, not a person.

Secondly, a woman who has married a rich man does not belong to herself. She is not free.

Thirdly, complete non-state support can at one not-so-pleasant moment turn into complete collapse and complete poverty. Millionaires have good lawyers, which means thoughtful marriage contracts.

This is the flip side of the image called "strong man" - the millionaire model.

Are superheroes ideal?

Why are Batman or Spider-Man so excited about women? This is not difficult to explain. Superheroes are an embodied female dream. On the one hand, Bruce Wayne is a millionaire, and on the other hand, he has a sense of justice. He is a crime fighter and the dark knight of Gotham. In a word, a handsome man. By the way, B. Wayne is also because of the dream that he is one of the few human, philanthropic rich people. It’s even embarrassing to ask: does he have the character of a man? Of course! Still would! Testosterone just rolls over.

"Spider" is a much more modest character. He's just a dumb photographer. Not as cool as Bruce Wayne, but still he's cute.

In both characters, the main thing is that they are heroes. In every woman a little girl lives, and she dreams of a prince. Batman in this sense is a more stylish option than the classic son of the king, and horses are not in fashion nowadays, the batmobile is another matter.

Married to a superhero. Can this be imagined?

I recall an old joke: "The ideal husband is the deaf-blind and dumb captain of the sea." Indeed, the fighter against evil is not much different from such a sailor. Therefore, comic book characters only have girlfriends, but no wives. Otherwise, they would have grown fat and out of shape, and would have to retire, but who needs it?

No, the heroes must be left alone. This adds them to the image of romanticism. In addition, they are always young, sexually active and gentlemen. If the "spider" or Batman is not a gentleman, then he is already a villain. Here is such a sad life for superheroes - only in the framework of good always and everywhere. By the way, it doesn’t matter if an evil or kind person (or hero), but the character of a man does not suffer from this. Guys can be any.

Real and imaginary writers

Real writers are usually boring and write all the time, in fact, from here and their name. Therefore, it is not interesting to talk about them. We will talk better about those writers who are familiar to readers and viewers: about the Master from the main novel by M. A. Bulgakov and about the rebel writer Hanke Moody.

The master is the dream of all romantic girls. He is smart, handsome, talented. These are his best qualities of character. True, at the same time, he does not have penetrative power, vulnerable, painful. In other words, the Master is such a generalized ideal of not a man, but a creative person in general. The master in a sense is a very feminine image. But for girls who are not interested in money, but want clean and great love, it is very suitable.

It is noteworthy that the Master and Margarita could not be together on earth, but only at rest (we deliberately did not say “in heaven”, because it is not clear where exactly the couple is in the final of the novel). And that is absolutely true. If we continue this love line on earth, then, at best, Margarita and the Master would be lovers all their lives, and at worst, the Master would disappear in a madhouse, and she would commit suicide.

If you mentally cut off the journey of a couple with Woland, then so it eventually happened. It all ended well. Everybody died. And those who did not die, they went crazy.

It is known that the prototype of Hank was Charles Bukowski. I must say that Hank is a softened and “very combed” image of the ancestor of “dirty realism”. What to do, Hollywood sins with a weakness for beautiful pictures. In fact, if Bukowski were offered a radical choice between alcohol and women, he would have stayed with the first. Fortunately, reality did not offer such a choice, and it interfered with two substances among themselves in unlimited quantities.

If someone reading this will say no, Hank does not attract us at all, they are either deceiving us or themselves, because the ratings of the series do not lie. And it’s definitely not just men who watch it.

Women like Hank, because the writer offered to the viewer is a brutal image (his character, so to speak, so-so) of a real bad boy. To be honest, women always liked bastards more than good guys. S. Dovlatov also wrote in the “Compromise”: “Here I am good, and who needs me?” The classic question for all the great guys.

Hank hypnotizes women because he has pure testosterone (even more than Batman). He embodies each girl’s long-standing dream of a bad but charming romance.

By the way, and if we draw a parallel between the two imaginary images of writers, we get the following: if the Master was born in our time, he could very well become Hank. That’s how the 21st century is worse than the 20th.

The godfather as an ideal family man. “A woman can be careless, a man can never”

It is clear that all previous movie heroes and literary characters would have been bad husbands, but not The Godfather - Don Vito Corleone. Of course, provided that we renounce his professional activities and the specifics associated with it.

Michael's father is in some ways the ideal head of the family.

1. Smart. Witty.
2. Always protects his family.
3. Not fond of women, alcohol and gambling. In other words, without bad habits.
4. Despite his leading role in the family, he reverently and tenderly loves his wife, the mother of her children.
5. He loves (maybe even excessively) his children.

Even from this superficial analysis of the image of Don Corleone, it can be seen that positive masculine traits of character prevail in him. And the phrase from the second part of the movie trilogy, when Vito goes with a friend to the theater, where the latter’s girlfriend plays, and he asks the future Godfather: “Vito, is she really beautiful?” “For you, maybe for me, only my wife and children exist for me.”

Whatever woman dreams of hearing such words addressed to her? One trouble: not everyone will put up with the moral character of Don Vito. The character and personality of the head of the mafia would be simply gorgeous if he did not drown his hands in blood.

Parade of Ideals

The image, created jointly by Marlon Brando, Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo, crowns our article. The result is a little sad, namely: we have come to the conclusion that we have representatives of certain social groups (proletarian, manager, businessman, millionaire), which are only considered by misunderstanding as ideals, because “everyone has their own shortcomings,” and movie heroes only one of which is generally suitable for marriage.

If we ask ourselves what qualities a modern man should have, then the answer will be ambiguous. The male representative is endowed with the following features:

1. It is efficient.
2. Beautiful.
3. Well maintained.
4. Decently earns.
5. Loves women.
6. Strives for a strong relationship.
7. Collective according to corporate ethics and individualistic in spirit. Ideally, these qualities should somehow merge, forming a harmonious unity.
8. He doesn’t drink a lot (for a country that consumes 15 liters of alcohol per capita per year, this is an important parameter).

In principle, any of the types presented here (meaning only real "samples") can strive for the ideal of a modern man who embodies the best male qualities. The male character, respectively, from the point of view of current ideas should be like that.

We are all blacksmiths of our own image

It is clear that one can only become a real man with the right, suitable woman nearby. If a girl meets her boyfriend every evening with a stream of endless claims, one can hardly expect him to become the ideal of a male. Although, perhaps, some motivate this appeal. In other words, in reality, the character is different, each has its own character. But all of us are capable of becoming a little better.

The main thing that should be understood: any person is not hopeless (except, perhaps, an addict and the last alcoholic), a skilled craftsman can create a work of art even from bad material.

So a woman should not expect that the ideal of a modern man will sail into her hands, but she can always create it from what it was, for there are few princes (as well as perfections), and there are not enough of them all.

The appearance of a man who fell into her hands can be changed, he can be motivated to raise money. Of course, not a frying pan, but an exclusively affectionate and good attitude. When a piece of stone gets to the sculptor, he first of all assesses the quality of the material, its prospects. So a woman, looking at a man, should not see what he is, but what he can become. We will not hide the ability to see the true nature of the human being - this is a great art, and it needs to be studied for more than one year.

To summarize, we would like not only to talk about the best masculine qualities, but also a little amuse and entertain the reader. We do not know whether they have succeeded in this matter, but we want to believe that yes. In any case, our classification of character was not scientific, but nevertheless, it had distinctive features of some types of men. And this should be useful to the reader.
