Set up a home network of two computers

Setting up a home network has long since become commonplace, for the implementation of which the bulk of users do not even turn to specialists. Of course, there are rare exceptions when the structure involves complex schemes, such as, for example, when creating a network between residents of a high-rise building with the possibility of several Internet connections.

On Microsoft operating systems, setting up a home network between several computers can be accomplished in just a few clicks of the mouse button and, possibly, by rebooting. There are two main types of home network: with Internet access and without it. The second case is a little easier to implement, so let's start from it (we consider the case with two computers).

So, setting up a home network starts with choosing a type of connection. Data packets can be transmitted both via cable and using radio waves (Wi-Fi, BT). For a person who is worried about his health, you should opt for the wired option. In this case, you will need to measure the distance between the outputs of the network cards and visit a computer hardware store. There you should order a twisted pair cable of the required length with installed connectors (plugs) from a consultant. Previously, it was necessary to indicate the type of connection (“computer - computer” or “computer - hub”), now this is not necessary, since all modern network cards automatically switch the operation mode depending on the method of crimping the cable cores.

Arriving home, you must properly unwind the cable, secure it, and plug the connectors at the ends into the connectors of the network cards. In the case of a wireless connection, you must configure access in the drivers of the corresponding adapters.

Further configuration of the home network is to adjust the software part of the system. Main requirements: both computers must belong to the same workgroup; it is desirable that the addresses are near range; Mandatory condition - various names.

In Windows XP, to configure, select the properties of the My Computer shortcut, open the Computer Name tab here, and click Change. It remains to specify a unique name and some group (for example, MSHOME). On the other computer, do the same. Now you need to register IP addresses. To do this, click the right mouse button on the image of monitors in the lower right corner of the desktop, select "Status" - "Properties".

Next, in the Internet protocol, specify the address and mask. The first should be 192.168.xxx.xxx, and the second parameter should be 255.255.255.0. On the neighboring computer, the address, respectively, is 192.168.xxx.uuu, where instead of letters there are arbitrary numbers.

Setting up the home network of Windows 7, as well as Win XP, is also possible through the wizard. For the "Seven" the necessary settings are present in the Network and Sharing Center, and in the "old woman" XP are called through "Start" - "All Programs" - "Standard" - "Communication" - "Setup Wizard".

Setting up a home network through a router is more complicated, since it is necessary to make changes to the operation of the device. Knowing the model, all the data can be easily found on the Web. Such a connection method is necessary, for example, for organizing Internet sharing, provided the provider is bound to the MAC address.
