Proletarsky Zavod (OJSC, St. Petersburg) is one of the pioneers of Russian engineering. The company, today part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, was founded in 1826. For the past half century, it specializes in the manufacture of marine equipment, and also produces equipment for the energy industry. The company is constantly improving the range of products that are supplied both to the domestic and foreign markets.
Glorious story
From the first days of its operation, the Proletarian plant (previously the Aleksandrovsky Iron Foundry) carried out strategic government orders and manufactured equipment for the Russian industry. Since 1826, complex engineering structures have been produced here, the first domestic steam ships and locomotives were built. The Great Patriotic Enterprise completely switched to the manufacture and repair of military products:
- armored trains and armored vehicles;
- parts for tanks, anti-aircraft guns;
- mines, ammunition.
Reprofiling
On September 13, 1963, a fateful resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers was issued: the plant was redesigned - it began to produce marine engineering products. In those days, the Soviet fleet conquered the ocean. Warships and civilian ships needed fundamentally new machines and mechanisms.
To provide state shipbuilding programs with equipment, the Proletarsky Yard began to work as part of the Ministry of Shipbuilding Industry. A specialized design bureau was created at the enterprise - already a year and a half later, the factory workers began to manufacture marine equipment. We started with demonstration models of hoisting and lowering devices, deck cranes, steering machines. Later they mastered the production of adjustable-pitch propellers, hydraulic machines, manipulators for deep-sea vehicles, and complexes for transferring liquid and dry cargoes on the move between the ships at sea.
Today
OJSC Proletarsky Zavod is a strategic enterprise. The company produces a wide range of sophisticated marine equipment, including unique products that are operated on most Russian and a number of foreign vessels. Its products provide large orders for the Navy, and are exported under the patronage of Rosoboronexport.
In dialogue with design bureaus and shipyards, the plant aims to create a modern competitive product that is in demand primarily in the domestic market.

The Proletarsky Zavod OJSC produces sophisticated marine equipment. These are electro-hydraulic deck and bridge electric cranes, pitch stabilizers, a wide range of special devices. They are installed on supertankers, submarine nuclear missile carriers, aircraft-carrying cruisers, civilian, transport ships.
In recent years, as part of export deliveries, sets of aerofinishers have been created for the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya of the Indian Navy, which was re-equipped at Sevmash. This unique product in Russia is produced only at the Proletarsky Zavod.
Technical re-equipment
To increase labor productivity is the primary task of the administration. An equally important goal is to provide customers, among which the leading one is the Navy of the Russian Armed Forces, with products in strict accordance with contractual requirements.
The plant continues to be provided with modern processing centers, issues are being resolved to equip jobs with the necessary imported cutting tools and equipment. The qualifications of employees are being improved, systems of staff motivation are being improved, the practice of interacting with specialized universities to attract young specialists and workers has expanded. Export
Ship and power engineering products from this plant have always had stable demand abroad. Deck cranes, marine power equipment, cargo transfer devices, manufactured and delivered by the plant in the last century, are successfully operated on many ships, including foreign ones.
The year 2013 became important for the factory workers - the year that the fulfillment of the obligations to install two sets of brake machines delivered to India was completed. The plans of the Proletarsky Zavod, thanks to the fulfilled contract, in the future involve similar profitable orders. Now mastering the release of new modifications of gas turbine units, demanded by foreign partners. An agreement has been signed and is being implemented for the supply in 2014-2017 of 16 sets of gas turbine generators GTG-1250-2E for four ships of Project 15B of the Indian Navy.
