Rivne NPP is one of the most reliable nuclear power plants in Ukraine

1971 - the year of the beginning of the preparation of design documentation for the first nuclear power plant in the western part of Ukraine. The original name is โ€œWest Ukrainian NPPโ€, changed during the construction process.

In 1980, the first electricity was already working for the benefit of consumers.

general information

The maximum capacity that the Rivne NPP can generate is 2 million 835 thousand kW. The station generates more than ten percent of all Ukrainian electricity and twenty among Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

The total number of personnel who takes part in the work of the "Separate Unit" Rivne NPP "exceeds eight thousand people, almost four thousand of them have higher specialized education.

Rivne NPP

The station meets all international safety requirements, confirmed by repeated stringent inspections of the IAEA and the world organization, combining companies that operate nuclear power plants - HLW.

By the way, this is the first nuclear power plant in the Soviet Union that adopted international inspectors. The multinational delegation gave the highest rating to security and organization of work processes.

Geographical position

Rivne NPP is located on the banks of the river Styr. The territory is characterized by low density, remoteness from large cities, and infertile soils. Rivne NPP on the map of Ukraine is located in the city of Kuznetsovsk, named after the famous scout Nikolai Kuznetsov. The vast majority of the inhabitants of the village are associated with the Rivne NPP. Even on the coat of arms of the city there is an image of a nuclear power plant.

Power units

The Rivne NPP operates four nuclear reactors - two VVER-440s, built in 1980 and 1981, each with a capacity of 440 MW., And two modernized, more technically advanced VVER-1000s. The third unit of the Rivne nuclear power plant received in 1986.

The last power unit was put into operation only in 2004. The Rivne NPP fell under the moratorium on the construction and commissioning of any nuclear facility, adopted in 1991 by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Only in 1994, after the lifting of the ban, the work was continued, but stretched for almost a decade due to unstable financing and security supplements introduced into the technical documentation.

The initial project provided for the construction of two more power units with a total capacity of two MW. At the moment, the project is frozen, but in the future its implementation is possible. Commissioning will solve many problems with electric energy, both within Ukraine and neighboring countries. The approximate cost of one power unit is one billion euros.

Research and safety

Rivne NPP produces not only electric energy. Almost from the very first day of the opening of the station, a laboratory has been functioning that studies remote methods for monitoring the reactor zone. Advanced physicists take part in research.

The forces of scientific staff carry out the development of documentation, monitoring the technical condition of each of the reactors and the plant as a whole, modernization and development of databases.

Rivne nuclear station

Sixteen stations on the territory of the NPP measure radiation background and emissions around the clock. Modern meteorological systems record the speed and direction of the wind, pressure, and ambient temperature. The data are freely available on the official website of the station.

The basic principle that guides NPP employees is to maintain the maximum level of equipment safety. The station has a rigid access system. The level of security meets international standards.
