There the girl stood a whole lake, more precisely, a deep plate with water, and flowers were laid out along the edge. Thumbelina swam through her small lake and sang songs. But once a big toad burst into the calm and joyful life of Thumbelina. She sneaked into the window at night, where the cradle of the girl stood. Toad stole Thumbelina to marry his ugly son. The girl was taken to the middle of the river and put on a leaf so that she would not run away, and it was possible to organize a wedding.
When the toads left to prepare a home for the newlyweds, Thumbelina began to cry. Fish heard her and decided to help. They gnawed a leaf stalk, and a nice little girl swam from these toads. And then she got to the May bug, but his friends found the girl too weak and ugly. Then he left Thumbelina on a camomile. Frustrated, she sat and cried. It seemed to her that she was ugly, although in fact she was pretty.
Thumbelina got to the field mouse, which heated and fed her. She advised the girl to marry a rich mole. But he was old and did not like the heroine, she dreamed of running away, but did not know where.
Throughout the winter, Thumbelina looked after Swallow, which everyone considered dead. But the girl heard how the heart of a bird beats. In the spring, the swallow had to fly away, and she called with her her savior. But she refused, because she did not want to leave the field mouse. When it began to go to the wedding with the mole, the girl began to regret that she had not left then with the bird. And on the main day before the wedding, Thumbelina asked to say goodbye to the sun on the street, where she met a swallow. And this time she did not refuse to fly away with her.
They flew together to the warm edge, where Thumbelina appeared on a flower, next to the king of the elves. In the finale of the tale, the king of the elves makes her an offer, and the girl receives a couple of wings for the wedding.
