A large number of borrowings and the active development of jargon has led to the fact that the Russian language seems too complicated and confusing for the uninitiated. And to understand all the tricks with the nuances is a fart. By the way, the very short concept has long become a stumbling block: without implying anything bad, it sounds very vulgar and seems inappropriate in secular society. Why did this happen, where did the word come from and how did it develop? It’s worth starting with etymology.
Good luck, not Latin
Many mistakenly connect the origin with fortuna. The ancient Roman goddess Fortune patronizes everything that the Russian person puts into a capacious designation. However, semantically, experts draw a line to the German fahren - "go", "travel", because of which "fart" is a direct tracing-paper with Fahrt:

In argo and in everyday life
The term came from the slang of criminals and other marginalized groups. Therefore, all of his interpretations are slang, ambiguous. They have not the most positive subtext in the eyes of society. Each thief will be able to tell what “fart” is in the first sense:
- Lucky case;
- luck, good luck;
- risk.
Initially, they meant success in criminal matters, the ability to steal and not get caught, to get out of a dangerous situation without loss. Because of this, a lucky person is both successful and risky, ready to go to a dubious event, to cope with any unforeseen difficulties. This implies the second interpretation:
It is quite reasonable from the point of view of thieves. After all, if fart is success in the appropriation of another's property, then the amount of stolen is acceptable to be considered a measure. Unfortunately, due to the specific past, some contemporaries associate the concept with various evil phenomena and illegal activities.
British identity
Be careful in English-speaking countries when communicating with compatriots. There exists its own definition for Fart, which translates as "spoil the air."
If others cannot understand your speech, they will easily catch a familiar set of sounds. And cling to the "fart". This is not fatal, but there will be a reason for ridicule and slanting looks, which will obviously complicate further interaction.
Casual vocabulary
In Russia, the word can be used relatively fearlessly. Most fellow citizens calmly accept the synonym of “luck”, but only in an informal setting. And for official negotiations, use literary terms to make business communication fruitful.
