Joey Barton was born on September 2, 1982 in England. At an early age he joined the academy of the Everton football club, in which he studied for a rather long time. But this did not break Joey - he was a fighter by nature, so he only wanted to prove to everyone that he was able to become a professional.
He spent some time at the Liverpool Academy, where he was also denied, but in 1997 he joined Manchester City, where he was finally accepted. In 2000, Barton turned eighteen years old, and signed a professional contract with him, but he was called to the main team only a year later, and he played for the first time for an adult squad only two years later. In his first season, the young central midfielder spent just seven matches, scoring his first goal. But already from the second season, talent was recognized in him, and Joey Barton spent four successful years at the base of Manchester City. He entered the field 153 times, scoring 17 goals.
Why did he leave the club? Barton himself reported that he simply did not find a common language with the coach, but in fact the reason was that in his last year he attacked a black teammate and beat him, after which he left him unconscious. As a result, Barton was convicted, he was given a suspended sentence and 200 hours of community service, as well as a fine, which was sent to the victim. Naturally, the Manchester City club did not want to have anything to do with such a player, so in the summer of 2007 he was sold to Newcastle for 9 million euros.
Going to Newcastle
Newcastle bosses would know what they spend that kind of money on. Pretty soon after moving to a new club, Barton again attacked a man and as a result admitted that he is an alcoholic. As a result, his suspended sentence became real, and he had to spend several months in prison, while trying to get rid of alcohol addiction. However, his contract with the club Joey Barton, a football player with great talent, despite all his antics, worked to the end as he could - through all the removal from the field, disqualification and even imprisonment. For four years in the club, he entered the field 84 times, scoring eight goals. He did not intend to renew the contract with the club, since negotiations with the leadership were at an impasse. In fact, he was going to go to Arsenal, but his skirmishes with black players of the London club during the matches put an end to all his intentions.
