An environmental management system is a specific management that includes a given organizational structure, allocation of responsibility, planning, processes and practical activities, as well as the resources that are needed to develop, implement and achieve environmental policy goals. Created in the West, it is gradually coming to us, since the world situation on this issue remains quite tense. Often you can find the abbreviation of environmental management - EMS, which is also used in the field of standardization and certification.
The environmental management system plays a very important role in the world, and is headed by its International Organization for Standardization, which monitors countries in relation to the release of hazardous and harmful substances into the atmosphere. Back in 1991, a group of strategies was formed to monitor the production of goods associated with harmful production. Later, already in 1993, on its basis, the technical committee for environmental management ISO / TC 207 appeared. The main task of the committee is to develop quality standards of the ISO 14000 series, as well as TQM, indicating the full environmental friendliness of the products. Being a generally binding norm for all production and commercial enterprises, the committee monitors compliance with the requirements and requirements that are set by the world community for manufactured goods.
That is why the environmental management system monitors and solves the following tasks for the implementation of new and safe means of production:
- scientific development, implementation and ensuring the continuous functioning of environmental policy at the enterprise, in accordance with the global trend of improving and rationalizing nature management.
- Monitoring the compliance of the enterprise policy with the environmental standards that they declare. To check the environmental management system, certain checks are carried out with a certain frequency with the obligatory drawing up of an act on compliance with environmental legislation.
- A clear demonstration to other organizations and end users of the positive results of the relevant policies. Testing organizations periodically organize presentation videos and informational reports on the state of the environmental situation in a particular region of the country.
- Issuance of certificates and official registration, without which the environmental management system at the enterprise cannot be implemented in practice.
- Constant evaluation of the committee's activities, as well as the development and implementation of new standards that contribute to the gradual improvement of the environmental situation.
The environmental management system also has the following principles, according to which all their activities are carried out:
- obligations in the implementation of environmental activities;
- planning;
- implementation;
- assessment and measurement;
- verification and improvement.
Environmental management appeared relatively recently, but has already managed to win a fairly large number of its adherents. The fact is that all people are well aware that only through joint efforts will mankind be able to overcome the potential threat of environmental disaster. Recently, very close attention has been paid to environmental issues around the world, therefore, monitoring compliance of enterprises with new requirements is quite serious. Thanks to this, we can hope that in the very near future the situation in the field of ecology will be noticeably improved.
