Victor Ortiz was born on the last day of January 1987 in Kansas, the city of Garden City. His family was a prime example of Mexican immigrants. The guy was the second child, and there were three children in total. At the age of seven, Victor was left without a mother who left the family. Father was an inveterate alcoholic and often beat his offspring. A few years after the mother left, the children were left without a dad, who also abandoned them. This situation forced the young man to start working on plantations in order to survive. At the age of thirteen, Victor Ortiz fell under the state's trusteeship program and was forcibly separated from his relatives.
Youth
Unfortunately, the young American still fell under the influence of the street and bargained for ecstasy and marijuana. But at the same time, he was actively engaged in boxing and was even able to win the prestigious Golden Gloves tournament. Thanks to this, Victor Ortiz finally got involved with crime and went into sports with his head.
Training at the "Center for the Salvation of the Red Shield", the young talent was under the tutelage of five trainers at once. And already in 2002, after the age of the older sister, Ortiz left for Denver, where he continued his boxing classes. In 2003, Victor became the winner of the youth Olympic tournament.
At the age of 17, the young man was summoned to the adult Olympic team for viewing, but was eventually eliminated.
The beginning of a professional career
Victor Ortiz, whose battle statistics turned out to be impressive in the end, went to profiling in 2004. He won his first seven fights quite easily. In a fight with Corey Elacron, the young talent performed brilliantly, but due to a violation of the rules, Ortiz was eventually disqualified, although he won the match. After that, Victor spent another 9 successful fights, and on January 19, 2007, for the first time brought the fight in a draw due to a cut of the head. The first serious opponent for our hero was Emmanuel Clottey, whom the American Mexican knocked out in 10 rounds. The next fight was even more important, because the opponent of Victor was the ex-world champion Colombian Carlos Maussa. But “Evil” was able to knock out a competitor in the first three minutes.
Oscar de La Hoya contract
By signing a contract for fighting, Victor Ortiz received a new round of development of his career. Already in September 2008, the fighter was able to get the right to his first title fight, in which he defeated Robert Arietta and took himself the belt of the WBO NABO champion. Victor was recognized as the most promising boxer of the year.
In March 2009, Ortiz first appeared on HBO. The fight was successful for him, and the opponent was knocked out.
First defeat
June 2009 Fight for WBA interim champion title. Victor is boxing with Marcos Maidana. Already in the first round, both boxers were knocked down. In the second round, the Argentinean was knocked down twice, but from the 5th round he was able to turn the tide of the battle. In the sixth round, the fight was stopped due to a severe hematoma in Ortiz.
Crucial Welterweight Fight
For this fight, Victor climbed a category higher. His opponent was champion Andre Berto. The fight turned out to be very spectacular with many knockdowns, which ultimately earned the title of the best fight of the year. Ortiz won on points.
Confrontation in Mayweather
From the first round, Floyd began to completely dominate and surpass Ortiz in technology. Victor was constantly advancing, but this did not help him. The key moment of the battle was the header that the "Evil" inflicted on Mayweather near the ropes. For this violation, one point was withdrawn from the champion.
