Fertile Crimea: Massandra winery and other unique wineries

The world famous Crimean wine factories are located on the coast of the peninsula. Most of them are concentrated between Sevastopol and Feodosia. Wine began to be produced here in antiquity. We switched to the industrial method more than 150 years ago.

Russian "Champagne"

The special microclimate of the Crimean peninsula makes it possible to grow a huge variety of grape varieties. Some plantations boast preserved local varieties of vines and especially valuable European ones. That is why the wine range of Crimea is very rich.

Many local wines have international awards and prizes. Each Crimean winery has a tasting room, a small museum that preserves the history of the plant, and offers several sightseeing routes for production and cellars.

Winery "Massandra"

The legendary association is located in the village of Massandra on the coast of the Crimean peninsula. A winery with two branches has been known in the world for a very long time. The climate of the South Coast (long dry and hot summers) makes it possible to cultivate a first-class vine. Plus, the high professionalism and daily work of winegrowers is the secret of the famous Massandra wines. Massandra Winery is a participant in most international tastings and competitions. At each such event, the Massandra wines must be included in the award list, and the notorious “Red Stone White Muscat” has two Grand Prix.

The production of wine at Massandra has been put on a scientific basis from the first day of the enterprise. Scientific research is being conducted at the Maragach Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking, located in the eponymous tract on the Crimean peninsula. Massandra Winery produces gourmet drinks. Sommeliers from different countries of the world consider the elegant Massandra wines a masterpiece of art. The best of them are stored in Crimean enotecs.

Meet the “Sun Valley”

Since 1888, the wine estate of Prince Gorchakov under the name "Archaderese" became the winery "Solar Valley". It is managed by Prince Winemaker Lev Golitsyn, the founder of Russian winemaking and viticulture. Under his personal leadership, the famous plantations in the Koz Valley were laid. For the wine factory “Solnechnaya Dolina” (Crimea), in addition to Kokur, Tashly, Sary-Pandas grapes, new European vines were planted: Sersial, Riesling, Sauvignon, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Saperavi and Cabernet.

Winery "New World"

By the spring of 1893, under the leadership of Lev Golitsyn, a huge cellar for ripening and storing wine was cut in the rocky slope of Delikly-Kai .

By the beginning of the twentieth century, the plant fell into disrepair, and the vineyards degenerated, and only by the 50s of the last century did the slow restoration of vineyards (especially autochthonous varieties) and the production of wine begin.

Today, the plant at the state farm "Sunny Valley" (Crimea) is one of the best wine production facilities on the peninsula. And the drinks “Black Colonel” and “Black Doctor” are the visiting card of the plant.

Peninsula Export Champagne Wines

There is a New World winery on the Crimean peninsula. It is located in the village of the same name. The beginning of the enterprise dates back to 1878. Aces of wine art make sparkling wines here: the driest, semi-dry, brut and dry.

The start of the production of champagne in Russia was also laid by Lev Golitsyn. Having acquired a manor in the village of Novyi Svet, the prince-winemaker paved solid roads, built workshops for making wine, rooms for workers and tunnels in the rocks for ripening and storing noble drinks. Then he began experiments on the production of sparkling wine. The result of a ten-year development was the Paradise champagne. Next came the “New World” and “Coronation”.

Particularly successful is the batch of sparkling wine (60,000 bottles) produced in 1899. In France, this year's champagne has received the highest international recognition - the Grand Prix.

Modern history

Newly-made sparkling wines are proud of the won gold (five) and silver (ten) awards brought from international class competitions.

The program includes a mandatory visit to the enoteca, which stores unique samples (some of them are more than 100 years old). The tour ends with a breakdown of six brands of sparkling wines and champagne. While the tasting is in progress, the guides tell historical facts related to the appearance of champagne as a drink and the home of the New World wine.

Winery "New World" offers an interesting, informative tour of the production halls. The most intriguing part is the technological operation of degorging. This is the first important procedure for making champagne. At the end - a mandatory tasting. No children are accepted for this excursion.

There is an excursion “Bruterianskaya” - for lovers of dry champagne. It includes a visit to the rocky cellars. In them, tourists fall on remuage - one of the main technological operations in the production of effervescent drinks. And during a story about the history of the plant and the peculiarities of new-world champagne in the tasting room, visitors have the opportunity to try six brands of brut.

Another incredible adventure is the “Royal” tour. Tourists are invited to visit the cellars and taste elite brands of champagne in the office of Prince Winemaker Lev Golitsyn.
