In the southeastern part of Western Siberia there is a region that is second only to Yakutia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory in its area. The harsh climate, due to which most of the territory is assigned to the regions of the Far North, does not allow to equip it, and only the central part and the southern one are inhabited by residents.
Tyumen region: history
The region was formed in 1944 by distinguishing cities and towns from Omsk and Kurgan regions. However, the first cities of the Tyumen region, or rather settlements, appeared on the Tyumen river in the 13-16th centuries.
In 1586, the construction of two fortresses began, which meant the creation of the Russian Tyumen prison. A year later, Tobolsk was founded, and in 1708 was appointed the administrative center of the Siberian province, which in 1796 was transformed into the Tobolsk province. Since 1920, the officially Tobolsk province was renamed Tyumen.

On the territory of the Tyumen region live a variety of peoples. Most are Russians, Tatars and Ukrainians. Local peoples such as the Nenets, Khanty and Chuvash are also represented.
Economics, infrastructure and culture
The main cities of the Tyumen region are the main sources of its development. Many people know that the region is rich in minerals, due to which it is one of the most “prosperous” and takes first place in industrial production. In particular, the fuel industry accounts for more than 80% of all industrial production.
In addition to mining, in the region there are machine-building enterprises: tractor trailers, equipment for oil refining, exploration equipment. The chemical, woodworking and logging industries are also well developed.
Despite the fact that most of the region belongs to the Far North, in a small area they are engaged in agriculture, growing potatoes, grain, animal feed. In addition to growing plants, they are also involved in cattle and dairy production.
The Tyumen region is rich in cultural objects, it is worth remembering that Grigory Rasputin was born here and spent his last days with his family Nicholas II.

Where the name "Tyumen" came from is not exactly known. Some argue that from the Tatars who once occupied the territory, others say that from the Bashkir word “tumede”, which means “below,” while others believe that the name was taken from the old Chingi-Tura, which meant “city on the way. "
Today Tyumen is a developed city, the population of which is 720 thousand people, where the bulk of the population are Russians. The local people also live - Mansi, but everyone is called the Tyumen.
It has developed industry and infrastructure, good transport interchange (the presence of 2 airports, a railway station and major roads).
Other cities of the Tyumen region play an important role in the development of the economy.
Tobolsk, as described above, was once the capital of the province and today is one of the largest cities in the region with a population of 98 thousand people. The fuel and energy complex is well developed, numbering about 6 enterprises related to oil and gas pipelines, as well as machine-building enterprises, production of building materials, and art craft (a factory of art products, restoration workshops, an icon painting school) are developed.
Yalutorovsk is a city built in 1659 as a prison and settlement on the banks of the Tobol River. Today it is one of the five significant cities where about 40 thousand people live. This is an industrial center where the food industry is considered the main area of activity (85% of the manufactured products), the construction industry, wood processing, and the metal processing industry are also developed.
City Ishim, Tyumen Region
Another major city in the region is Ishim, whose population is 65 thousand people. The founding date is 1670, when Korkina Sloboda was formed as a venue for annual fairs. However, this territory became for many a permanent place of residence, gradually expanded and already in 1782 became a city. It is interesting that the city and the river in the Tyumen region began to bear the same name because of the location - Ishim.
Like most cities in the region, Ishim today is an industrial center, where there is a machine - building plant, a mechanical plant, oil pipeline management, a shoe and clothing factory, as well as factories and plants of the food industry.
In terms of infrastructure, there are schools and secondary schools, hospitals, museums and cultural centers.
