It would seem that they recently picked up a club, and already play excellently in the leading teams of the country, bringing them invaluable benefits. But there are few such players. And all their fans know by name.

One of such modest laborers of Russian hockey is the famous defender of the Kuznetsk “Magnitogorsk” (HC “Metallurg”) Philip Metluk. On the example of this athlete, one can trace the fate of most ice fighters playing in the KHL or VHL. Once, together with other boys in the yard, they dreamed of playing like Bobby Hull in the NHL, but they did not even get into the draft of this North American league.

Philip was born on December 13, 1981. An athlete was born and raised on the banks of the Volga in the city of Tolyatti (Samara Region). It is with this city that the beginning of his hockey career is connected. Here Philip Metluk and his older brother Denis took their first steps on the ice. Philip's main hockey specialization was defense. It is this hockey role that he still has.
Tolyatti “Lada” was the first professional team in which Philipp Metlyuk made his debut. The defender spent almost ten seasons in this team. Moreover, together with this team, he moved from the first to the major league of domestic hockey. Three seasons before the formation of the KHL, the defender moved to Khimik near Moscow and played with him in the Super League of the Russian championship. With the formation of the KHL (2008), the hockey player firmly takes a place in the Avangard team (Omsk).

Currently, the athlete's hockey career continues in Belarus. He signed a contract with HC Neman. The sports life in the championship of the neighboring republic is much calmer, and it will be easier for a veteran to pass on his accumulated experience to the younger generation.
The main achievements of the current defender of the Belarusian club: bronze medal of the Russian championship of the 2003/2004 season, victory in the First League (2004), silver medals of the Czech Republic (2005). In 2016, Metlyuk became the bronze medalist of the KHL as part of Salavat Yulaev.
The pupil of Togliatti hockey does not have outstanding achievements and fabulous contracts, thanks to which he can be ranked as a star. But about 20 years has been devoted to the beloved work of all life - playing with the puck, which is worthy of respect.
