Zaryadye is a park under construction in Moscow on the site of the former Rossiya Hotel. According to the project, the green zone was conceived as a combination of urban and natural landscape, a unique pearl that adorns the city. The park plans to collect a huge number of plants from all over the country. And the designed philharmonic society promises to become a world-class modern concert hall, attracting not only citizens, but also numerous guests of the capital. Thus, Moscow will soon acquire a new business card.
Idea and start of construction
The idea of creating a green zone appeared three years ago. And in 2013, an international competition was announced to develop a concept by which the Zaryadye park will be built. The winning project is the creation of the American company Diller Scofidio + Renfo. By the way, these are the authors of the famous New York Green Zone High Line.
The construction of the Zaryadye park began this spring. It should end in 2017, to the celebration of the
870th anniversary of Moscow. The cost of construction may be about 150-200 million US dollars, and it will be made entirely at the expense of the city budget. The project is also remarkable for the fact that new parks have not been built in the capital for almost fifty years. Therefore, the opening of Zaryadye promises to be a truly large-scale event.
Park concept
Without a doubt, it is worth saying a few words about the project that won the competition. The general concept of the park is based on the principles of landscape urbanism. This means that the project is based on the close interaction of the city and nature. It cannot be otherwise, because Zaryadye is being built in the center of the capital, in close proximity to the Kremlin and Red Square.
The park will combine the characteristic features of the territories adjacent to it. These are the historical quarters of Kitay Gorod and the magnificent Kremlin Gardens. At the same time, the park will present a unique diversity of the plant world. It is planned to collect trees from all over the country, recreating the four landscape and climatic zones that exist in Russia. These are forest, tundra, steppe and water meadows. They will intersect and mix intricately, creating a peculiar and unique appearance of the green zone. It is interesting that visitors will not be imposed certain routes for walking. Trees will grow freely.
Note that it would be possible to combine seemingly incompatible landscapes with the help of modern microclimatic technologies: temperature regulation, wind and artificial lighting. Thanks to this, the conditions will always be comfortable for visitors as well: warm weather in winter and comfortable weather in summer will be maintained at separate sites. Therefore, Zaryadye is a truly unique park.
Construction progress
The creation of the green zone began this spring. In particular, the underground pavilions of the Zaryadye park are backfilled with earth. The fact is that under the hotel complex "Russia", on the site of which the construction is underway, there are a large number of multi-level areas that need to be cleaned and leveled. This part of the work will take about six months.
In the near future, the creation of a foundation pit for the philharmonic will begin. It is interesting that everyone can watch the progress of construction. This was made possible thanks to a special information pavilion. It works every day and is a unique gallery depicting the past, present and future of the region, the way the grandiose project is being realized and the Zaryadye park is gradually emerging. When all the planned facilities are built, the pavilion will organically fit into the borders of the green zone and, possibly, will be among the attractions. It is interesting that in the evenings the pavilion glows, attracting tourists.
Philharmonic Hall
The pearl of the Zaryadye park promises to be a modern philharmonic society. According to the project, the main hall will accommodate about one and a half thousand spectators. Also, chamber concerts will be held in it, up to 150-200 visitors will be able to become guests of them. The Philharmonic in the Zaryadye park and its acoustics are being developed together with leading experts from Japan. Before that, they were engaged in sound at the Moscow Conservatory.
The construction of the Philharmonic is planned to be completed by the opening of the park. The city hall of the capital believes that it will become an object of world scale and a worthy contribution to the cultural life of Moscow. Interestingly, both the Philharmonic Society and the open amphitheater will be located under a transparent dome made of glass. It will protect visitors to the park from scorching sunlight and rain.
It is planned that the open amphitheater will accommodate about four thousand spectators. It will broadcast events that take place at the Philharmonic, as well as hold open concerts. They will create a special microclimate under the dome - it will always be warm there.
Underground parking
In addition to the park and the Philharmonic, an underground parking is planned to be built on the territory of Zaryadye. It will occupy an area of about 37 thousand square meters. Its construction is already in full swing: currently the foundation slab is being poured. Parking will accommodate up to five hundred cars. This will help to slightly relieve the stressful traffic situation in the central part of the city.
Ancient entertainments
Zaryadye Park in Moscow will become not only a bright project and a comfortable place to relax, but also the heart of genuine Russian entertainment. We are talking about the iconic sights of the capital - the Pskov Hill.
According to the architects of the project, in winter it will become the central place for fun sledding and festive Shrovetide events and festivities. This will be the main snow slide of the city with a roll to the river. According to some metropolitan historians, its restoration will be a genuine revival of the Russian spirit.
A bit from the history of Zaryadye
Zaryadye is the historical part of the capital. It was formed in the XII-XIII centuries and was the main commercial area.
In the years 1534-1538 they built the Kitaygorod wall that separated Zaryadye from the Moscow River. But in 1782, the district again gained access to the shore thanks to the Breach Gate.
The fire of 1812 destroyed all the houses in Zaryadye. New buildings were made of stone. At the same time, various shops were located on the ground floor, and the owners of shops located on the upper floor were located.
Everything changed again in the 30s of the last century - the demolition of the historical district began, affecting even the ancient wall of Kitai Gorod. In Zaryadye they were planning to build entire complexes of multi-storey buildings. However, these projects have not been implemented. And only in the 60s the hotel "Russia" was built here. But already in 2006-2007. as part of the project to return the area to its former appearance, it was demolished. In its place will be built "Zaryadye" - a park, so intricately combining the past and the future.
Zaryadye is the pearl of the capital
Combining the historical flavor and modern technology, natural wealth and urban architecture, Zaryadye promises to become a favorite vacation spot for residents and guests of the capital. Its area will be more than 13 hectares. According to the Zaryadye project, it will be able to receive more than ten million visitors a year. And this means that the changes will affect the transport infrastructure of the capital.
For the convenience of visitors, traffic will be reduced, and the number of sidewalks, on the contrary, will increase. The park will offer its guests a wide variety of entertainment: walks in picturesque gardens, breathtaking winter sledding, fishing, as well as concerts at the Philharmonic and live performances. Both world-famous artists and young musicians will perform. Moreover, concerts will be held free of charge.
Within the green zone, it is also planned to place an observation platform "floating bridge", from which the surroundings will be perfectly visible; a fascinating ice cave, as well as numerous cafes, cozy restaurants and gift shops.
And everyone will find here something of their own, beloved and very dear. Zaryadye is a park for year-round recreation with a truly Russian spirit.
