Probably, almost every user of a personal computer at some point met in the
task manager of the operating system with the process Ctfmon.exe. This "magic" process itself restarts, even if it is forcibly disabled. If Ctfmon.exe is removed at startup, the desired effect can also not be achieved.
This item will be launched along with the operating system. What is it for? If you try to succinctly answer the question regarding Ctfmon.exe (what is it), it should be said that this is a Windows process that controls “User Input” and, in addition, the “Language Panel” (keyboard layout switch, with which You can change the input languages).
Ctfmon.exe: what does this give the tablet?
This process is responsible, among other things, for a number of additional features, including speech recognition, as well as handwritten text and the use of the on-screen keyboard. Obviously, without such capabilities, interaction with a tablet computer could be much more complicated. If you use any of the listed functions, you need to leave this process enabled.
Suppose that you do not need such capabilities, then you should pay attention to ways to disable this service. Based on your system and how it is configured, there are several options for stopping the process. We will consider them in more detail in the next section.
The shutdown algorithm in the "Office"
You can disable alternate input in Microsoft Office by uninstalling this feature through the installer. For this purpose, go to the "Control Panel", and then to "Uninstall Programs", we find the installed Microsoft Office.
Select "Change" and put a tick in front of the item "Advanced Settings". We pass further. We find "Alternative input" and remove this package from the installation.
Shutdown on Windows
Open the "Control Panel", select the item "Languages". We pass to the tab of the same name. Click on the "Details". Go to the "Advanced" tab by checking the box next to "Turn off text services." Thus, the process of interest to us will be immediately closed. Next, run the "Task Manager" and make sure that Ctfmon.exe is missing.
The layout indicator on the keyboard from the tray will also disappear, however, this function will work as usual. If you are using Windows Vista, the shutdown algorithm changes slightly. Open the “Control Panel”, find there a section called “Clock, Language, Region”, in which we select the item “Change Layout”.
Go to the "Keyboard Languages" tab, click on the "Change Keyboard" item. After that, we find ourselves in a window that we already know from the description above. Thus, in order to complete the Ctfmon.exhe process, you need to remove the additional services for input, with the exception of your layout, which is installed as the main one, from the table called “Installed Services”.
This process can also be deleted from startup. To do this, you must first follow all the steps described above, because otherwise Ctfmon.ex will return automatically to autorun. For this purpose, go to the "Start", select the "Run" function, specify Msconfig.exe or type a similar command in the search for the main menu. In the configurator, go to the "Startup" tab.
We find the process Ctfmon.exhe in the list and turn it off, discarding the checkbox opposite the specified entry. There is also the option of disabling registered libraries that are busy running input methods. For this purpose, it is necessary to enter special combinations on the command line or in the “Start” - “Run” item.
If you resort to this step, you must also get rid of the corresponding process in the startup, as we discussed above. If everything is done correctly, after restarting the computer you will see that the process of interest to us does not start from now on.
We fix languages
The
language bar problems can be related to the fact that
Ctfmon.exe does not start, because this process is responsible for the keyboard layout and input. The file of the same name can be found as follows: open "My Computer", go to drive C, then start the Windows folder, and then System32. We turn to this directory, find Ctfmon.exe, run it manually.
If you have lost the language bar after performing the described operations, it will become available again. The launch line of this file will be added to startup, and each time the system is accessed, the program will start automatically.
