Modern architects do not cease to amaze the public and are increasingly trying to get closer to the sun. To date, there is a rating of the highest buildings in the world. Classification by this feature is ambiguous due to the fact that different methods of calculating the height are used. The most common calculation method: vertical linear marking from the ground level to the highest elevation of the structural element of the building: spire.
Burj khalifa
To date, the tallest tower in the world is in Dubai. Its height is 828 meters. The shape of the structure resembles a stalagmite or minaret, which is quite typical for Islamic society.
Before that, the Warsaw Radio Tower was the leader , but it collapsed in 1991, having stood for almost 20 years (construction was completed in 1974).
Initially, it was assumed that the Dubai Tower would be 1.5 kilometers high. However, geological and survey work showed that in the planned installation site the soil will not withstand such a weight, therefore, they revised the project and reduced the height to 1 kilometer. Construction began in 2004 and moved at an accelerated pace, 1-2 floors a week. About 12 thousand people were employed at the work.
For the construction of the tower used a specially designed composition of cement, able to withstand temperatures of + 50 degrees. The tower is installed on hanging piles (200 pieces), a length of 45 meters with a diameter of 1.5 meters. The structure has an asymmetric shape to reduce the effect of swaying from the wind.
Tokyo Sky Tree
Second on the list of tallest towers in the world is Tokyo Skytree. Located in Tokyo in Japan. Its height is 634 meters. In shape resembles a five-tiered pagoda. There are two observation platforms on the tower, at the level of 350 and 450 meters. From the last platform, a passage rises, with a glass floor, where only daredevils rise, you can climb to the last 5 meters of the tower.
Construction began in 2008, and was completed in 2012. In addition to viewing platforms, the tower is used for broadcasting, it has many shops and restaurants, and at the foot there is an aquarium and a planetarium.
Shanghai tower
The highest tower in the world standing in 3rd place in the ranking is the Shanghai Tower, whose height is 632 meters. The construction was erected over 8 years, from 2008 to 2015. An interesting story is connected with this tower. Back in 2014, two Russian extremals made their way to the construction site and climbed onto the roof, subjugating almost completely the entire height. The whole process was captured on a camcorder and the plot was uploaded to YouTube. Over 2 years, 60 million people watched the video.
Canton tower
What is the tallest tower in the world? Of course, one cannot imagine a complete list without the Guangzhou TV Tower in China. Its height is 610 meters. This unique structure up to a height of 450 meters has hyperboloid bearing structures with a central core. The construction was completed by the Asian Games in 2010.
There are 4 viewing platforms on the tower, at 33, 116, 168, 449 meters. There are two revolving restaurants here, at 418 and 428 meters.
Royal Clock Tower
The tallest tower in the world standing in 5th place is Makkah Clock Royal Tower, which is part of the Abrazh Al-Bit complex. Located in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The height of the building is 601 meters, the opening was in 2012. At the top of the spire is a Muslim crescent, weighing 35 tons.
Another unique feature of the tower is the presence of the 4 largest clocks in the world. The diameter of each dial is 43 meters, when they are highlighted at night, you can see the clock from a distance of 30 kilometers. And each hour hand weighs 5 tons, with a length of 17 meters.
For its intended purpose, the building is intended for living, there is a hotel in it and all the necessary infrastructure for living. In the construction at the same time can live 100 thousand people.
CN Tower
The sixth tallest tower in the world is located in Canada, its height is 553.3 meters. The tower held the palm from 1976 to 2007. Today it is the tallest freestanding building in the entire Western Hemisphere.
At a height of 351 meters a restaurant is equipped, the surface of which rotates. In cloudless weather you can see a panorama of 100 kilometers. The observation deck with glass floor is at 342 meters.
And for extreme people in 2011 they opened a unique attraction. You can walk along the ledge at an altitude of 346 meters, of course, exclusively with insurance.
World Trade Center 1
In seventh place on the list of the tallest towers in the world is the Freedom Tower or World Trade Center, New York USA. The height of the structure is 541.3 meters, the tower was opened in 2013. It is the tallest office building on the planet. The structure was erected on the site where the twin towers once stood. The width of each side of the base is almost equal to the width of the sides of the twin towers - 61 meters.
Ostankino
And finally, the highest tower in the world located on the territory of the Russian Federation. The height of the Ostankino tower is 540 meters. At an altitude of 330 meters, the Seventh Heaven restaurant is open.
There are certain restrictions, for example, the entire area in the district of 180 meters near the tower is forbidden, where you can’t walk. In 1967, architects assured the public that the construction will last 300 years. The viewing platform is also absolutely safe, so it will not work to end the scores.
There are several tragic events connected with the tower. So in 1993, in front of the telecentre, there was a military conflict, which killed 46 people. In 2005, a fire broke out on the 2nd floor, and a number of television channels ceased broadcasting. In 2013, there was also a fire, about 1 thousand people were evacuated, no one was injured.
Taipei 101
Ninth in the list of tallest towers in the world is Taipei 101, in Taipei, Taiwan. The height of the structure is 509.2 meters, construction was completed in 2004. The building has 101 floors, with many shops and restaurants, another 5 floors underground. The fastest elevators are installed here, which reach speeds of up to 60.6 kilometers per hour.
The building has a unique backlight, which is turned on from 6 to 10 pm, depending on the day of the week, it has a different color.
Shanghai tv tower
The 10 highest towers in the world include Oriental Pearl Tower, China. The height of the building is 468 meters. By the height of the tower, 11 huge "pearls", that is, spherical structures of metal with different diameters, are installed. Each of these balls has an observation deck. The building has restaurants, shops, conference rooms, penthouses.
The tower is captured in several feature films and documentaries: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Godzila: The Final Wars, Fantastic Four: The Surfer's Silver Invasion, and Life After People, where a version of how the structure is destroyed in 70 years is put forward .
Objects under construction
Today, architects of the world are trying to surpass Barge Khalif in size. In the first place, again, Dubai, where by 2020 they plan to build the Tower with a height of 1050 meters.
In second place is Saudi Arabia, where it is also planned to complete the construction of the Jeddah Tower by 2020. The tower should exceed 1 kilometer in height. Who will win the race for leadership, time will tell.
In addition, several tall towers are being built in other countries, but with absolutely no claim to leadership in the ranking. 644 meters high tower is being erected in the capital of Malaysia - Kual Lampur, in China Greenland Center - 636 meters.
At about 25th place there are two structures that should open around 2021 in Russia:
- Lakhta Center, St. Petersburg, 462 meters;
- “Akhmat’s Tower”, Grozny, 435 meters.
I would like to believe that with these objects it will not be the same as with the Park Hyatt Tower, Mambai, India. It was assumed that the building will be 720 meters high, construction began in 2010 and was scheduled for completion in 2016. But already in 2011, the construction site was frozen, then it was re-opened several times and again completely closed in 2016.
