L. N. Tolstoy wrote not only for adults. He wanted the kids to know the world. For children, the writer created narratives-descriptions and informative stories.
School in Yasnaya Polyana
The young Lev Nikolaevich in his estate in 1850 for the first time opened a school for peasant children. He saw that children were drawn to knowledge, but they had nowhere to learn. However, Tolstoy believed that in the remote villages “new” Lomonosovs and simply gifted children were “hidden” - the future of the country.
The Sevastopol campaign did not allow him to engage with peasant children for a long time. Having returned, he reopens the school, trying to make the children interested in it. Trying and making mistakes, he gropes for the development of children.
Once he asked his student to write, as he had been taught before the Yasnaya Polyana school, and in each line of a simple story the words “beat” and “shouted” were found. Reading the works of teachers and philosophers of his time, traveling abroad, everywhere L. Tolstoy was looking for role models. But I didn’t find anything.
By his own rules, he again begins to teach children the alphabet, arithmetic, the law of God, aging, so that children would be interested. Classes were held in classrooms and in nature. The children simply did not want to go home, they were so keen on knowledge. However, the authorities considered the count’s actions dangerous. In 1862, the school had to be closed. But the writer continued to create stories for children.
