Coming to the store before the next painting, women experience difficulties at the sight of a wide range of products for hair coloring. This unites all the fair sex: brunettes, blondes and brown-haired women. When choosing hair dye, most women are guided by the brand’s popularity and the color of the hair on the package, while others pay attention to the price and name of the shade. But only a few attach importance to the numbers near the name, because most do not understand their meaning. But if you do not know such subtleties, there is a risk of getting a shade different on the hair than on the package, especially in the case of a radical change in image.
The meaning of the digital code on the package
Different brands, indicating the main part of the shades of tone presented in their palette, use two or three numbers:
- the first digit indicates the depth (darkness) of the color - from dark to light, from 1 to 10;
- the second digit (separated from the first dot or fraction sign) is the code of the main tone of the paint;
- the third digit is the designation of an additional shade (its content in the paint composition is at least half less than the main tone).
Marking, where only one or two digits are used, excludes the presence of extraneous shades, which is a sign of exceptionally pure tone.
For example: 2.0 - the number of black paint in the palettes of professional and many household coloring agents.
First digit of code
The paint palette contains ten tones of a natural range:
- 2 - number of black paint;
- followed by a dark brown;
- brown;
- light brown;
- dark blond;
- light brown;
- light blond;
- blond;
- very fair blond.
Some manufacturers include a tone of 11 or 12 in their palette, which means that the paint has a strong brightening effect.
Sometimes in the palettes of coloring agents there is a tone called "deep black color" - paint number 1.0.
The second digit of the code
The first, after a dot or fraction, is followed by a figure indicating the main shade in the composition of the dye:
- the number 0 is in the range of natural tones;
- 1 means the presence of blue pigment in the paint - a number of ashy shades ( black blue paint - number 2.1);
- 2 - green pigments (matte shades);
- 3 - yellow or orange pigment (golden hues);
- 4 - means a number of copper shades;
- 5 - red pigment;
- 6 - purple pigment;
- 7 - brown pigment;
- 8 - blue-violet pigment (pearl row).
Third digit code
The presence of the third digit in the code designation of the paint indicates the presence of an additional shade in the composition of the coloring pigment, in addition to the main one, which makes the color more interesting and deeper. The correspondence of the number to the subton is built on the same principle as for the second digit. For example, tone 7.46 is light brown copper-violet.
Letter designations
On some paints, the color is indicated using Latin letters (instead of numbers).
The letter code should be decrypted in this way:
- A is a super-luminous tone;
- C is ashen;
- E is beige;
- G is golden;
- F or V is purple;
- I - intense tones;
- K is copper;
- M - matte;
- N is natural;
- R is red;
- W is brown.

To probably shine after coloring with the beauty of your hair, it is better to be guided by the digital designation of the tone of the paint when choosing. After all, now you know what number is black.
The ability to decipher the paint shade code greatly facilitates the choice. But it is important to select a product taking into account the particular structure and color of the hair at the moment: how and what color they are painted or highlighted, whether there is highlighting, their porosity and damage.
