Factory District

The factory district of Saratov was officially founded in 1936. But then the name was different - Stalin. This name was assigned only in November 1961.

Historical reference
The first mention of the population of the territory occupied by the Zavodsky District of Saratov appeared before 1590, that is, before the foundation of the city itself. Historical records and artifacts confirm that it was here that the Golden Horde city was Uvek.

On the outskirts of Saratov, in the Zavodskoy district, the ancient city of Uvek was located. It is conventionally believed that its borders are the mouth of the Uvekovka river (north side), the Neftyanaya station and the Volga river on the east side, on the west side the Volga Upland.
Scientists believe that the city was founded in the XII century. Most likely, prisoners were engaged in the construction, which the Mongols drove here from different parts of the conquered country. Discovered artifacts give reason to believe that there was a trade and craft center.
Mention of Uveka is even in the book of Marco Polo. The traveler Ibn Battuta, who visited him in 1334, speaks of him as a small village, with beautiful buildings and great prosperity, but with too cold climate.
Numerous finds suggest that Uvek had its own hammered courtyard. Coins are well known, on the one hand there is an inscription: "Eternal glory and the honor accompanying it." On the other side of the coin, the year and place of minting was indicated. Since the last coins that were found date back to the 70s of the XIV century, this period is considered a period of decline, and this is associated with landslides on the banks of the Volga. The final date of the death of the city is considered to be 1395, when Tamerlan pursued Tokhtamysh.
The development of the Zavodsky district of Saratov was activated in the 70s of the last century, when the Uvek hill was excluded from the register of protected historical sites.
