How to delete a user account?

The fact that modern Windows systems can simultaneously register an almost unlimited number of users, on the one hand, seems to be good and convenient. However, quite often in the latest versions of the system, user data is mapped to a Microsoft account, which many users do not like. In this article, we will look at how to delete an account in the 10th version of Windows. Most of the proposed solutions (except for using the options section) are also suitable for Windows 7.

Types of accounts and options for their deactivation

To begin with, let's decide what the registration data are, what they are and what can be deleted. Almost all users know that Windows has the ability to create local accounts for which special logins and passwords are assigned for confidential login. Such registration can be tied to Microsoft account, but can do without it.

Local registration and Microsoft account

Microsoft registration, which appeared in Windows 8.1, has a slightly different nature, although it can also be used to enter the system. In addition, with this option of entry there is the possibility of expanded use of the services of the corporation, to which the named registration provides access. But most users are in a hurry to get rid of this type of account only because of an alleged violation of confidentiality (logins and passwords, whether you like it or not, are sent to the servers of the corporation in any case, not to mention other information like preferences in search queries or used programs).

How to delete the account of each of these types, we will further consider. In the meantime, let's pay attention to another important aspect. Apparently, there is no need to remind that, starting with Windows 7, an omnipotent super administrator appeared in the operating system, who has far greater access rights to system functions or launch programs than an ordinary user. And practically no action is complete without it.

Have you noticed that some applications have to be launched through the PCM menu as an administrator? Why is this so, even when the system is installed, the user is assigned administrator rights, but in fact it turns out that it is impossible to call a user app at least three times without the consent of the superuser and with a full range of functions? This is done specifically so that the user does not accidentally change critical system parameters or delete important files and folders necessary for its correct functioning.

However, even despite this, the developers still left a small loophole. Of course, you won’t be able to delete the registration record, which, by the way, is not displayed in the "accounts", but deactivating it or setting a permanent start for a particular application on behalf of the administrator can be completely elementary.

How to delete a Windows user account?

So, we will pass to practical actions and for a start we will look at actions on removal of local uchetka. To do this, use the classic control panel (and not the settings section in Windows 10) and select the appropriate section. How to delete a local user account?

Delete local account

The easiest way is to enter the management of another registry and use the delete line in the parameters. In this case, you need to pay attention to two important points:

  • Firstly, such actions can only be performed when logging in as an administrator.
  • Secondly, along with registration, user data can also be deleted, which is stored in the system partition in the Users \ Username folders.
Choosing to delete user files

Upon deletion, however, a request will be issued to delete such data. If you need to leave them, select the appropriate item.

Now let's see how to delete a local type account with another simple method, which is an alternative solution.

Removing an account with an alternative way

To access the accounts in the Run console, enter the netplwiz command, after which a small window appears with a list of all registered users. Select the desired one and press the delete button. In this case, as in the previous example, you must have administrator rights to perform the operation.

Please note that a deleted Windows account (local) cannot be restored. You can, of course, start the rollback of the system to its previous state. But this may not work, and therefore will have to create a new registration.

How to delete a Microsoft account?

Now a few words about unregistering Microsoft. This can be done no less simply.

Removing someone else's Microsoft registration

In Windows 10, for this you will need to go to the appropriate section from the options menu and select the family and other users (naturally, if such accounts are registered in the system). Then, as usual, the desired record is selected and the corresponding delete button is pressed.

Convert your Microsoft account to local

Similar actions for your own account can be done in the same section, but in the email and registration menu, where you select the login line under the local account instead of registering Microsoft.

The system will prompt you to enter a password from the old registration, specify a new password and a hint for its recovery, although you can leave the data used. After that, a message will be displayed stating that the Microsoft account has been deleted (converted to local), and on the computer it will correspond to the regular user, as it was in earlier systems.

Super Administrator Deactivation

Finally, let's see how to delete a superuser account or at least get around it. To get started, select the desired application and through RMB go to the properties of the shortcut. At the bottom, mark the option to run continuously as administrator. After saving the options, the program will start as if it were launched on behalf of the administrator through the PCM menu on the executable file or shortcut.

But this is a little inconvenient. The easiest way is to deactivate this registration altogether (to assign rights to yourself). To do this, enter the command net user Administrator / active: no on the command line that was originally started as administrator (for English versions of the system, Administrator is written instead of the Russian word). After the restart, all applications will start with maximum capabilities, and disabling UAC control is not required.

Is it possible to restore the registration?

As already mentioned, it will be quite problematic to restore local registration after deletion. But the Windows developers have taken care of restoring the Microsoft account.

Microsoft account password recovery

To do this, you must use the login system on the Microsoft website, indicate that you have forgotten the password, provide registration data in the form of an email address or phone, and when you receive a message, follow the link to replace the old password with a new one.

A few words in the end

We talked briefly about deleting accounts of any type. To perform such actions, you can also use the command line or PowerShell console, but these methods were not considered only because ordinary users will have enough of the above solutions.
