The stadium named after Eduard Streltsov. Biography of the great football player

In anticipation of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow, they must reconstruct and build new sports arenas. In the process of erecting the stands there are facilities for the Dynamo and CSKA clubs. Spartak has opened its own home. The Eduard Streltsov Stadium will not be involved in the 2018 World Cup, but, of course, it will be landscaped and ennobled for this event. One of the oldest and most popular clubs in the country, which is the Moscow “Torpedo” (holding matches in this arena), of course, deserves to have a comfortable and modern sports complex.

Stadium History

Eduard Streltsov Stadium

The stadium named after Eduard Streltsov was built in 1959. Initially, football players from the Moscow Torpedo held training on his field. The only tribune accommodated only 1,500 spectators. Before the Moscow Olympics, the stadium was reconstructed. New stands, locker rooms and office buildings were built. The stadium named after Eduard Streltsov could now accommodate 16,000 fans. The next and last reconstruction of the sports facility took place in 1997. Overhaul of the premises was made and plastic seats were installed, due to which the capacity of the stands has decreased and currently stands at 13,500 spectators.

The Torpedo stadium named after Eduard Streltsov is named after one of the brightest strikers of Soviet football. A gifted boy from the Moscow Region, already at the age of 16, went to the training camp with a team of masters, "car manufacturers." He received an invitation after he liked the head coach of “Torpedo” in the game of youth teams “black and white” against “Fraser” (Perov), for which he played. A tall broad-shouldered guy with excellent speed and dribbling a year later took a strong place at the base of the “Torpedo”.

A bunch of strikers team Ivanov - Streltsov was one of the most scoring goals in the USSR in those years. In 1956, they, as part of the national team, became Olympic champions in Melbourne. For a disinterested and good-natured character, the young player enjoyed the respect and love of the fans. And here in the fate of the football player there were terrible changes. A couple of days before leaving for the World Championships in Sweden in 1958, Streltsov in company with Ogonkov and Tatushin (players of the USSR national team) and girls they knew were in the country at a common friend. Rest with drinking alcohol and fun ended in the fact that in the morning the girls turned to the police with a statement of rape. It is not for us to judge what happened there and who really is to blame, but after all the investigative actions the court decided to punish only Eduard Streltsov. The sentence was cruel - 12 years in prison. Five years later, in 1963, he was prematurely released.

Triumphant return

Two years later, he returned to his home team and won the USSR championship with Torpedo, and in 1967 and 1968 he became the country's best footballer. Unfortunately, the severe injury sustained by the player in the 1968 season put an end to further performances by Edward, and in 1970 he ended his brilliant, but not fully realized career. The great striker died in 1990 from cancer. In Moscow, the Torpedo football arena was renamed the Eduard Streltsov Stadium. Photos and prizes of the legendary scorer are stored in the club's museum. Sagittarius to this day is one of the top scorers in the history of the Torpedo football team.

Moscow "car manufacturers"

Eduard Streltsov Stadium

One of the oldest clubs in our country was formed back in September 1922 and had the name Zamoskvorechye. It was then that on a small football ground equipped with residents of the nearest houses (the site of the current Avtozavodskaya metro station), a historic meeting was held against the RCC team from Finland. That match ended in a landslide victory for the hosts with a score of 7: 1. The founding date of the football club "Torpedo" is considered to be 1930. Then the country's leadership decided to create physical education organizations in the industries. The football club was created on the basis of the Automobile Moscow Society (AMO). In the future, the automobile giant has been renamed more than once (ZIS, ZIL, PO ZIL, AMO ZIL), but the name of the Torpedo team has remained unchanged since 1936.

The club’s golden time is the 60-70s of the last century. It was then that the "car manufacturers" became winners and prize-winners of the USSR Championship and the owners of the Cup of the country. The team leaders were Valentin Ivanov, Valery Voronin, Victor Shustikov, Boris Batanov, Eduard Streltsov. Later, in 1976, under the leadership of the trainers Ivanov and Shustikov, the Torpedo team became champions of the USSR.

The modern history of the team

In 1996, the ZIL plant, which is the owner of the club, sells the team to the new owner - OAO Luzhniki. “Torpedo” leaves the stadium named after Eduard Streltsov and holds his home matches on the field of BSA “Luzhniki”. In 1999 - 2002 the team led by Vitaliy Shevchenko is in the leading positions of the Russian championship, while demonstrating a bright attacking football. In 2000, “black and white” took 3rd place in the championship of Russia. Today is the last success of the team. In 2006, “Torpedo” because of financial problems for the first time in its history left the top division of Russian football. Over the next nine years, the team managed to lose the status of a professional club, dropping into the amateur league, then going all the way to the Premier League and again, due to lack of funds, to go down to the second division of domestic football.

The future of the stadium on East Street

Today, a new scheme for the Eduard Streltsov Stadium is ready, which should come to life after 2016. According to the management plans of the complex, the reconstruction of the arena and the nearby territory is planned for this time. The capacity of the stands of the stadium will increase to 15,000 spectators. The alley and monument to the great player will be reconstructed. A new youth football school will appear. They will build a road that will improve accessibility to the stadium named after Eduard Streltsov. The address that is known by more than one generation of Torpedo fans will remain the same: Moscow city, ul. East, 4, building 1.
